my husband has been see the doctor for about ten years with pain in his body and bad headaches, he is now being told it's fibromyalgia. i have googled it and found out a lot about it (some of it scary to think how bad it can get) He seems to get angry a lot and lose his temper a lot. does any one else who has it get like this? he has been give any tables for it yet, can any one who's on any tell me the good and bad things about taking them. I know what fibromyalgia is but i don't kno what it's like to have it, what day to day life is like. if any one can answer my question, i would be very gratefully. I just want to help him as much as i can

Hello and welcome to the group! It's so nice that you care enough to want to help him!

FM is so hard on those who have it. Some days, sometimes only for hours, we have it good. Pain's down, we feel almost like we did before FM came along. Other days, it feels like we've been run over by a truck. The change, from feeling good, to feeling like you've died from the pain, can happen literally in an instant.

When you get a diagnosis of FM, it's like you've died. The person you used to be is dead. Nothing is going to get that well person back. This is a chronic, lifelong condition. You go thru all the steps of the greiving process. Anger (why me), denial (the doctors must've gotten it wrong), grief, acceptance... they are all part of the normal greiving process. He may be angry and short tempered because of this reason.

Another reason may be the depression that comes with Fibro. FM is a neurologic condition. FM and depression go hand-in-hand. Almost everyone with Fibro becomes depressed (and they may lash out in the depths of their depression). I would bet that over 90% of all FM sufferers take anti-depressants. Is your husband on anything?

I'd say to get him to join these forums. There is a TON of good information, and I recommend you and he both read many of the old posts on here. In the meantime ((((hugs))) and welcome to the group!

What a wonderful, supportive wife you are! Moira described it perfectly. I'd recommend you (and later he) read discussions here and also in the section on meds and treatments. You'll both learn so much here. Knowledge about what you're dealing with and how others handle it will help you.

Keep coming here for support...we understand.

Liz

Hi, he's probably hurting right now, but so are you! He has to get acting out under control, because drinking will not help at all. It will make things worse if he's prone to anger, or may affect him adversely in other ways with meds, etc. Can you get him to join us? We have guys here, and also some very tough girls.

I dong think it's a guy thing, he just don't want to think that this is it, that there is no way of getting rid of it. I've heard before about the benefits on muit vitamins so I may go with him to the doctors to see what he says is good to take.

Thank you for all you help and support

Welcome,

I usually say it feels like you were just in, or it is the day after, or perhaps a week after a bad car accident where the car was totaled. You never know what level of pain it will be or where. AND you are just getting, have or just getting over the flu. So both these things at once, lets say if feels like the 2nd day after the car accident with full on flu or a week after a car accident and I am just getting the flu.

When you have either one of these events, you can't cook, go to work, shower, do laundry and maybe not even get out of bed. But you have both of these things, every moment of every day and day to day, even hour to hour, intensities of symptoms change and where the symptoms are in your body move around.

Duloxetine is used to treat depression. That's the generic name of cymbalta. It takes a little while to kick in. A week isn't gonna show that much. I agree that some of this may be a response to the dx or it may be depression/anxiety. Welcome to the group!

Duloxetine aka Cymbalta is also 1 of the 3 drugs that has been approved by the FDA for Fibromyalgia. The other 2 are Lyrica and Savella. That doesn't mean that there are not other Meds that can also be taken for Fibromyalgia.

I suggest talking to his Doctor. Good luck and be patient. This is a very difficult condition to live with and it is overwhelming at times. It is not just the physical pain but the emotional pain too. Please keep us posted. Smile
