for weeks i have been going non-stop between birthdays and doctors and everything else. yes i overdid it but this is what my family requires and i feel like i have to take care of everyone and it never seems like anyone is very willing to help. the spasm started weeks ago but in the last 5 or 6 days they've become excrutiating. my neck actually popped last night (first time in months) and the pain was so bad i almost threw up on the spot. hot showers don't help, heating pads don't help, NOTHING helps. every day i wake up, put more icy hot on my neck and shoulder, take my muscle relaxer and pain meds, and head to the couch where i spend most of the day intermittently massaging and stretching. my head always starts hurting as the pain meds wear off. i am so incredibly miserable! i am supposed to go back to the doctor in about 4 weeks for injections to help loosen my muscles and i'm incredibly nervous and anxious at the same time. i held my best friends hands while she had them done and i know how much they hurt so i'm scared of how much it will hurt with the needle going into my rock hard muscles because really my entire back is clenched up. but at the same time it holds the promise of relief. i think it's the spasms that are keeping me sick to my stomach so i can barely eat and now my lower back is starting to spasm as well. I HATE THIS! i can't help it i just keep bursting into tears i'm so miserable!

nembery,

I am so sorry for your pain. I know exactly what you are talking about.

It literally takes your breath away. It is so painful.

What muscle relaxer are you taking? I am wondering if you are not taking a high enough dose. I would call your Doctor's Office and ask what they suggest you do so you can have some relief from the pain and the muscle spasms.

I wouldn't wait 4 weeks til you see the Doctor. Be gentle with yourself and keep us posted. Smile

i was on flexeril before but when i saw the doctor i told him it was doing absolutely nothing so he changed it to tizanidine which is supposed to be stronger. i CAN feel a difference but it's nowhere near touching these spasm. they are some of the worse i have ever felt. my skin is so incredibly sensitive where the spasms are. i keep thinking i'm going to get up tomorrow and function and then i wake up and i hurt so much i just can't bring myself to do it.

What dose of Tizanidine which is the generic name for Zanaflex are you taking? I am wondering if you should ask your Dr. if you should increase the dose. Can you call your Doctor today? Wassat

he started me at 4mg last week. i may try and call today if i can find my cell phone. stupid me lost the darn thing and that's where his number is. i just looked it up online and apparently i did NOT get all the information i needed when i got my medication from the pharmacy (NEVER EVER going there again! they screwed up royally!) apparently i'm supposed to drink a full glass of water when i take my medication and since i have tablets i should eat something when i take it to increase affectiveness. they told me NEITHER of those things and i haven't been doing them. thanks alot incompetent pharmacy people!

My friend who's sometimes on here, Mesothornie, has been having the exact same neck pain. She's been having issues with it not wanting to relax either and being excruciating.

The spasms in the neck/shoulder are excrutiating.... I take flexeril and heat pad to attempt to head them off but that doesn't always work ... the injections are painful but the relief is well worth it.. if you can take a painpill about an hour before the injections, it makes it not so bad..and call that doc and see if he can't get you in NOW!! It won't go away on its own....

I'm an Advocate

Shortly after being dx d with Fibro and referred to a Rhuemy, PCP and I talked about the severe pain at the base of my neck and across my shoulders.

PCP immediately called Rhuemy (their offices are in the same building) and within 10 minutes, Rhuemy was there . The 3 of us conferred on my pain and the possible treatment.

I ended up with (at that same appt.) shots of Lidocaine and Daypro-40. Super tiny needles, very minimal prick feeling and near immediate relief. Rhuemy said I could get them monthly, yearly ....whenever needed. I didn t need them again for 2 YEARS and am just now beginning to feel that same periodic pain in that area. Before the injections, there were many times when my neck felt so weak (and painful) that I had a hard time holding my head up.

I would call your dr. now (as others have said) and not wait until your next appt. You cannot live with pain like that ~~~
