Hello everyone

I wanted to know has anyone with fibro for over 4 years experienced a deep chest cough? No mucus or anything like that. My husband say's is sounds like I smoke 10pks a day that's how deep it is (I don't smoke) it started little by little about 3 or four months ago. It was after my meds at night when I lay down (no change in meds or times taking them) I take a cough drop and helps control it. I notice when I am anxious ( I also have anxity)I get it too.

I did read it as a symptom (deep cough) on a list of things people experience along with fibro so wondered if anyone else has had this?

Thanks and hope you all have a pain-less weekend

Smile

When I cough (I don't do it all the time) mine's like that. I was diagnosed about 3 years ago with Reactive Airway Disease. It's not asthma... but I usually just say asthma cause people have heard of it and the symptoms are similar. My triggers are any type of tobacco smoke, strong foaming cleaners like bathroom cleaners or oven cleaners, and some really strong, loud perfumes. I can smell wood smoke, or incense all day, and I won't cough once. I get a single whiff of tobacco smoke and I try to cough up my toenails. I've been known to dislocate ribs and pull muscles in my diaphragm from coughing.

For me, the treatment is the same as with asthma. I use an inhaler when I get to coughing. I've only been diagnosed with Fibro for a few months, but I'm pretty sure I've had it but been undiagnosed for over 25 years. So... for me... yeah, it's not every night, but yes, I cough. My best suggestion would be talk to your Rheumy, and probably see a pulmonologist. They are the ones to see for anything to do with the lungs and breathing. It could be anything from viral, to fibro, to cancer to a fungal infection (histoplasmosis is very common in the deep south, it's a fungus that lives on bird droppings, and with all the commercial chicken houses, it's pretty common to be inhaled like pollen in the air and set up shop in your lungs). Just to name a few things. I'd definately recommend seeing a pulmonologist.

Remember that our climate this past winter was the warmest we have experienced. And so many people will have allergies sooner than when the allergy season usually begins. So many of us are not prepared for the on coming rag weeds, leaves, grass, etc...

Please see a pulmonologist or at least your doctor, so as not to wait for treatment at the last minute. Better safe than sorry.

Take care of your self.

I agree with Olga, better safe than sorry. Let your doctor make sure something else isn't going on!

I agree. I'd get it checked out. It could be so many things. I coughed a good bit, but figured out that it was related to my GERD(acid reflux). After getting that more under control, the coughing eased off.

Thank you everyone for great replies and sugestions. A week or so ago I did mention it to my Dr. (for Fibro) and I have a lot of other stuff going on too so he sent me for urine and blood test. he is checking all kinds of things. A few mths ago I went to my general Dr. and had a check up with blood tests and thought he had checked everything but no.. he said nothing that we need to know was checked.. so hopefully something in the results well give me an answer for the cough and much more problems I am having...

I know (and I'm sure everyone else here does too) how frustrating it is to wait for test results and keep having to do more. I sure hope they get you some answers very soon.

I have had that. Are you being exposed to pollutants or second hand smoke anywhere? Make sure any air filters where you spend a lot of time are being changed on a regular basis. Are you being exposed to spring pollen (going outside) on a regular basis? With me (and my son) it is related to our asthma. Asthma is one of those conditions that occur a lot with fibro.
