I was recently in thr hospital with pneumonia. When they done blood work my Creatine Kinase level was very high. My doctor said that it was a muscle breakdown. While I was in the hospital they flushed my system with alot of fluids to bring my level down.

Has anyone else had this problem? Could it be linked to my fibro?

I'm an Advocate

I know if you have muscle pain or weakness or have had muscle cells damaged they will check your CK levels. I had mine checked when I was in hospital for a mass of infection following my hysterectomy. I don't know if it could be from your fibro or not it could have come your pneumonia. I pray you are doing well now and continue to heal. Hugs and love

The problem with this test is that it's very non specific. For example, it can be high if your heart is damaged, if your kidneys, your biceps, your lungs, etc. Did they do any further testing? Did they tell you to follow up with your PCP?

I will add that, while I don't know everything, it is doubtful this is from the fibro, unless perhaps you are having severe muscle atrophy from doing nothing(though that's not directly FM, but would be secondary).

So would this be the same as showing proteins in the urine?

I ask that because my lab was out of range twice. That is when they found the cysts on the kidney. And that crazy rheumy I was going to said to me "She did not know why I had protien in my urine, or what the cause could be". A flag was being thrown up then. That is one of the reason I told her GOODBYE.
