hi I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone knows of places for water therapy in northern nj. I've tried acupuncture but that seems to work only on smaller concentrated areas like migraines and digestive issues. The widespread pain seems difficult to treat. I currenlty take savella 2x/day, tramadol 4x/day, 6,000iu of vitamin D3 every day, magnesium, calcium and zinc supplements, synthroid, ambien, maxalt, clarinex and protonix. I've tried Cymbalta, Lyrica, Neurontin, Lexapro, and Ativan. I'm in the middle of the worst flare up I've ever had. It started the second week in December and I don't know how long it will last. I feel like I have severe flu symptoms every day. I'm getting migraines 2-3 times a week. The fatigue is so strong but the more I lay down, the more my body hurts! If I push myself to do things like pick up the kids from school and do a load of laundry, I feel like a truck ran over me. I've been out of work for three weeks. I've had fibro for two years after getting Lyme Disease. I need to get better and get back to work! I'm a teacher! If the pain doesn't do me in, the guilt will! Any advise??

Hi and welcome to the group.....there is a nice bunch of people here....

Sorry I'm in Oregon but my Fibro Specialist suggested warm water pools for arthritic people there is one in the town I'm moving to, but in the event you can't find one, because in the town I currently live in just has a standard pool...try the hot tub at the pool...even if you just stand and walk in the hot tub...that is the advice she gave me...

Let us know what you do...

Big Hugs...

Hello and WELCOME TO THE GROUP. I hate that your are having a medical issues. Neither do I live in your State, here is a few things you may be able to look into. Is the a YMCA, Community Center, Rush or something like that there. The Community Center would be a good choice most of them does not cost much if any charge at all. Also some physical therapy has the pool. Dr may have to give you a RX the use.

Migraines, I also have them daily. How is you BP doing a low BP can be just as bad as a high one. Some of you meds may be some of your problem. Try taking just the synthroid first, after waiting the 30 mins. Eat something before taking the others. Emotional and stress can do this also. Migraines is one of the symptoms of Fibro. Blessings

Welcome to the group! I'd suggest either finding a local Y or parks and recreation center for an indoor pool. If you want actual therapy by a licensed therapist, you should contact your dr. They require referrals like regular PT. Or all the ones I know do anyway. I'd also suggest contacting your dr about the migraines.

Some OTC things for migraines are putting an ice pack on your neck or forehead, placing your feet in a warm water bath or on a heating pad, or rubbing the area between you thumb and forefinger.

Some OTC things for the rest are heating pads(or ice packs whichever you prefer), epsom salt baths, stretching exercises, and getting enough rest.

another thing if it is affordable is make a deal with a hotel with an indoor pool for so much a week for use..

I encourage water theropy because for me it is great, though I will warn you when you begin you will feel so sore, because your muscels are tighter then you even know..another thing is make sure they clean their pools I went to one and I promise you there was skin floating around, yuck I couldnt keep going it was gross, but I did get a pool from Wal mart and live in it during the summer it is great

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

We also have one of the larger above ground pools. My daughter's rheumy insists that she do some kind of swimming since that's easy on the joints and exercise. I love the pool but for some reason last summer, almost every time I got in I got a migraine. And no it wasn't the chlorine, I do the same thing in the tub. Anyway, I hope you find somewhere affordable for you.

Welcome FibroFemme,

I live in NM and did live in PA so sorry, I do not know of anywhere you can go. In PA there was a hospital near me that had an indoor pool they would do PT at. See if your doctor knows of any facilities because that is how I found the one in PA and here in NM I found them through my doctor also except they are too far away and I cannot get there.

Acupuncture never worked on me neither. I think your explanation of it working on smaller concentrated areas, not widespread pain (which basically has no originating cause like a strain or nerve damage) is correct.

Tramadol 50mg AM Noon 6PM Fibromyalgia/Pain

I am not a doctor nor do I work in the medical field. My opinions and suggestions are just that, just what I think and have to offer that I hope is helpful to you. Always rely on your doctor when making medical decisions.
