About six months ago I started having problems using my hands in the morning to make hubby his lunch..simple as grabbing a soda can was a no no...it takes about four hrs (sometimes more) before I can really make the fingers close (never all the way)...I have the most aweful pain right across the top of my knuckles....my feet also started troubling me about the same time...i look like i'm a "weeble wobble" when I stand to walk...I was sent to a Rhuemy because they thought I had RA...but nope...he said it's my dear friend Fibro...So after all that was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem??

Hello and Welcome to our group ~~~ Smile

My initial pains from Fibro began in my feet as you mentioned. Mornings were murder to get moving ~~~

A few months later, I noticed my hands feeling (but not looking) swollen and hurting when I would wake up in the mornings. Even holding a mug of coffee hurt ~~~ I also noticed that I would have fingernail imprints in the palm of my hands upon waking.

When I mentioned this to my PCP, he said it was my ""friend"", Fibro, causing me to clench my hands into fists during the night.

His suggestion was to learn to sleep ""flat handed"" (hands under pillow or under cheek prayer-style) and see if this helped. It is easier to learn to do than we think but it worked for me.

The hardest times are when my back or hips are hurting and I lie flat on my back with hands under buttocks.

The next ""solution"" might be wrist braces worn during sleep but thank goodness, I haven t had to resort to that .

I hope my suggestion helps your pain.

Marilyn

luvmyfambut,

YES! I have that problem with my hands and fingers and wrists every single day. I have severe Arthritis in my hands and wrists.

I wear wrist splints a lot to keep them straight.

I can hardly move my hands and fingers in the morning and by the end of the day too.

Try soaking your hands in Epsom Salts and hot water but not too hot in the bathroom sink.

I am sorry for your pain.

You are not alone. Wink

I just joined, and this is my first post. I had ' annoying" joint pain in my hands and knees to start out with for a long time...then it started getting worse over the last 8-9 months or so, and seemed to be almost everywhere in body. Like you said, my hands get very sore across my knuckles and I really have to give them a workout in the mornings. Over the last several months I've been to my doctor, and lots of specialist to check me for arthritis, and countless blood tests.

I just started on Lyrica, and have been on tramadol and celebrex for a few months. One thing that I have found that helps is to soak my hands in a "foot soak and massage " tub.

Hey Luv and Mark and welcome. I was also going to suggest soaking them in warm water to see if that helps. Perhaps moving your baths/showers to the morning to knock out two things at once.

I was just diagnosed today with Osteoarthritis in my hands and I am sure it will be knees and ankles next time. My doctor first ruled out Carpel Tunnel and then just had me make a fist and turn my hand a certain way and you could see a nodule pop up. Even touching it causes pain. There are lots of things going on all over my hands and wrists.

I had to get an under the counter jar opener and electric can opener and typing causes big problems.

One day I did too much typing and I could not let go of the mouse and had to pry my fingers off it. I massaged my hand and thought I could return and I could not grab the mouse and had to press my fingers around it. Well, at that I just gave it up.

And yes, my feet, shins, knees, ankles are all on there way out. Talk to your doctor about Voltaran Gel. It can be very pricey even with a Rx plan but there are sites that will sell giant tubes of it although I do not know how they can do that. I guess it comes from Canada. My doctor is having a gel made up at a special pharmacy which he said should be cheaper and hopefully work as well.

FibroCFS,

I also use the Voltaren Gel. My Rheumatologist prescribes me the 3 pack.

It is awesome! Smile
