I have severe migraines and IBS along with my FM. I've never found a muscle relaxer (flexeril, robaxin) that really works. Do any of them really help with pain or stiffness?

I can't do everything all the time, but I can do some things some of the time.

I have been taking Soma for a long time now,and it helped in the beginning. My doctor and I are working on a pain plan after I get completly off of these fentanyl patches and he is going to try Baclofen as a new muscle relaxer and Mirapex for the fibro pain with vicodin for breakthrough(I always have plenty of these on hand)I have a great doctor so I am lucky. I seem to be sensitive to alot of meds and that's why we're doing it this way. Alot of people are having good luck with Lyrica(I coudn't take it) So there is a few drugs you and your doctor might want to try. It's all trial and error on these meds and what works for one may not work for all.Hope this helps.

I use Baclofen, have been since about 2002 or so. Works pretty well for me.

I take 50mg total a day, sometime more. They come in 10mg pills, doctors usually start you out at 5mg & titer up. It will probably make you quite sleepy for a while & then you will adjust to it. I would give it a try.

I like soma. My new dr gave me zanaflex but it really dries my mouth and fogs up my brain. It also gets me dizzy.

I take Midrin for the migraines, it's a pretty cheap drug. Then I take Imitrex when they're extremely bad. Those are costly.

For the muscle spasms, I take Tizanidine at bed time. They work pretty good. But don't take care of my spasms in the mid day hours. The doc mentioned a new muscle relaxer that's out. It's so new though, that I guess it's expensive. She said they'd give it to me when it had been around a while and was cheaper. I'm sorry, I don't remember the name of it. But it's something you take in the morning, it's time released, and lasts all day.

Good luck with finding something. Let us know how you're doing, and take care.

Hi Amforster, I have had muscle spasms about all my life, since I had polio as a seven year old, and had to be on them ever since I started again with the doctors. I have been on lots of different kinds, but baclafon has helped me the most, but it does not stop the twitching at all, will at least it is still there really bad, maybe it would be worse if I wasn't taking lots of them every day. I am going back to the doctor next week, if I can hold out that long (its really been bad lately,,,,, worse all the time) I feel like it is taking over my life, and I don't know what to do. I have really been in a bad flare up lately,,, the only way I seem to be able to get any relief is to wrap up in my heated throw and try to sleep....... the throw helps a lot......... if you have any med. that coult help me, please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I am at wits end...... Thanks .......... Diane: [img]

Zanaflex and soma are good muscle relaxants. Flexeril is a muscle relaxant but is usually just used at night since itmakes you real sleepy. I hope you feel better soon. I have had spasms long time also about 30 yrs. I know the pain

I have used Soma in the past and it didn't even touch my pain, it just made me really sleepy. I am extremely sensitive to medication so it is a nightmare trying to find something for my pain. I take Nortriptyline at night as a preventative for migraines. I take Maxalt-10 when one comes on. I went from having migraines daily to having them once or twice a week. I've had muscle spasms for years. Well have a "good" day and I'll talk to you soon.

Terri
