Ha ha, I went to the other posts, oh man can I relate to those, one good day I went to the store to get some groceries, and I was really wanting some boneless chicken breast, well I got them but forgot to put them in the freezer instead I put them in front of the freezer and found them the next day. All I could do was laugh, my oldest daughter has Fibro, but she hasn't experienced Fibro Fog yet, I pray she never does.

I am new to the group and haven't quite figured everything out, but I was reading your comments on Lyrica and the "fog". I have that! I will be at work and I actually forget what I was doing. lol The sad part is that I am the boss. At least I have people working for me who knows I am on meds. lmao.. they just laugh at me, but the Lyrica doesn't take away the pain. It does make it bearable, but I still feel it. I can deal with the "fog" if it helps (even a little).

How long have you been on the Lyrica and what dose. They say for fibro you can go up to like 450mg a day. Maybe you need a little more time or an adjustment in your dose.

My doc said that the Lyrica is not a fast acting drug and not to be surprised if it takes 4-6 weeks to see results. I have been on it for 4 weeks and am definately seeing improvement.

Welcome cholmes, I too didn't see results right away with Lyrica it took awhile. I've been on it a little over 3 months now and on a high dose 150mg 3 times a day. It did help with my nerve pain but not with my back.

FIRST MEDICATION APPROVED FOR FIRBO AND IT'S MAKING THE LARGEST PHARMACUTICAL COMPANY EVEN RICHER.....

Let me explain....

Lyrica, commercials and the advertizing?

Well....

Remember those damn little blue pill commercials? Come on....those commercials and ads were everywhere! Remember Senator Dole and the skit on Saturday Night Live where Mrs. Dole was the guest host and they made fun of her husband using that little blue pill? Remember this?

VIAGRA!!!!

Who makes Viagra? Pfizer, Inc. The largest pharmicutical company in the world. They made billions of dollars and continue to make billions!

Now, take Lyrica...a drug actually made for people who have seizures and diabetic nerve pain....hmmmm....Lyrica.

The F.D.A. reviewers who initially examined Pfizer’s application for Lyrica in 2004 for diabetic nerve pain found those results unimpressive, especially in comparison to Lyrica’s side effects. The reviewers recommended against approving the drug, citing its side effects.

In many patients, Lyrica causes weight gain and edema, or swelling, as well as dizziness and sleepiness. In 12-week trials, 9 percent of patients saw their weight rise more than 7 percent, and the weight gain appeared to continue over time. OUCH!

Okay....Pfizer, Inc. ALSO makes Lyrica...get it?

Now, the makers of Lyrica don't quite know HOW it works for Fibro sufferers pain but what the hell? It's only making them billions of dollars because....Pfizer was the FIRST FDA APPROVED DRUG FOR FIBROMYALGIA! The ads and the commercials are EVERYWHERE!

Now, let me tell you something....Pfizer is going to help us more than you know ( I will not help them get rich by taking Lyrica because after what I read on the internet - people tried to stop the FDA from approving it and that's all I will say about that). Pfizer wants to make more and more money and I can assure you that Pfizer, Inc. will make sure the doctor's KNOW about Fibromyalgia.

Pfizer is also the maker of Lipitor (cholesterol) and Zoloft (depression) as well as OxyContin (pain killer)

Pfizer's over-the-counter products include Listerine mouth wash and Rolaids tablets to Halls cough drops and Visine eye drops. HOW ABOUT ALL THOSE COMMERCIALS WE HAVE TO SIT THRU??!!

Anyhow....the reason why you see Lyrica, commercials and ads is because of a companies greed to want to make more and more money.

Just my take on why there is awareness these days about THE FIRST MEDICATION APPROVED FOR FIBRO....

If I have offended anyone currently taking Lyrica, my sincere apolgies. I just cannot stand large pharmacutical companies making money off of our pain but someone has to help us and why not Pfizer...at least there is advertized, televised, recognized awareness now.

God bless you all,

Lory

You make a lot of good points Lory! With the drug companies, it's ALWAYS about making huge profits; that is their primary concern, and why so many drugs are marketed before their safety or efficacy has fully been proven! I was sort of disturbed that the founder and head of the National Fibromyalgia Association is so thrilled with Lyrica being approved for Fibro because she says "it legitimizes my pain!"

By that she means making it a "real" diseases state to the massses who believe everything they see on T.V. ads. I also read that their organization accepts funding from drug companies, including money to fund research, which I would think would be a conflict of interest. Research should be done independently and not funded by drug companies with profit motives.

It's a sad commentary that it takes a huge pharmaceutical conglomerate with dubious motives to "legitimize" Fibro to doctors and the public. But maybe something good will come of it all in the long run..I sincerely hope so.

Hello everyone, I am new to this group, but not to Fibromyalgia, nor am I new to the health and Pharmacy community. I am A Registered Nurse( Disabled of course) with a AA in Pharmacy.

I have been reading your thoughts on Lyrica and I must say I am suprised to see it helping so many of you with fibromyalgia.

I can't help but to share my opinion about the 'Lyrica/Neurontin" conversation here.

Lyrica(Pregabalin) and Neurontin(Gabapentin) are two totally different medications. Both have been approved for Diabetic nerve pain and both are used as Epilepsy medications. But the total make up of both are totally different. it is funny that both were recently put on a list of 11 Epilepsy medications that have been linked to Suicide by the FDA.

Recently, New Labling rules were set in place by the FDA for Lyrica. In Clinical trials 30% of the patients suffered from servere angioedema, which means "swelling of the head, neck, throat".

If you really look at the whole picture, Lyrica and Neurontin basically do the same thing, but are not related as a drug family. I would prefer to take Neurontin any day over Lyrica based solely on the safety levels.

SARA

P.S. I agree completely with the post by LORYR123.

Hey! Is there no spell checker here? Even the best of us fibromites, need spell checker!
