Hi forum. I am in so much pain. I'm quitting PT. I know it is to help me. But I hurt so much after doing the task. After PT this past Thur my sciatica flared up so bad that I could not walk and ended up in ER. And still after 7 days I'm having problems. I hurt to bad to get my self to PT less more my DR appt. I give up. I'm norm not a neg. person but right now I'm just sick of hurting. The weather has changed over night from the 80's to the low 40's that is not good. I hurt from my head to my toes. I just don't know what to do. Things seem to be getting worse instead of half way better. All I want to do is stay in bed. My weight is going up and I'm not eating. I hurt so bad that I can not turn over to take my meds. Gotta go thanks for listing to me vent.

Realityworld!

Great to see you back! I'm so sorry that you are hurting so badly...I'm not a dr, but if the PT is putting you in that kind of pain, I wouldn't go back either. You already know the little tricks like heating pads and stuff, so I won't go through that, but hope that things ease off for you soon. Maybe after a couple of days without the PT you will ease up some. You know we are here for venting, and you are in my thoughts and prayers. HUGSx10

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Hey there. I quit PT twice. They keep trying to send me and I probably should go, but I didn't feel any improvement. If PT hurts you then either you don't have a good PTist or it's just not for you. I wouldn't go either. They should have given you some sheets on how to do the ones at home, so after you get to feeling better you can pick one or two that are easy for you to do and do those. Not right now while you are in so much pain, but later.

it really depends on the person doing pt..I have been several times and for me it wasnt good..but with that said I also worked for a therpy department in a nursing home and I am an advocate for it myself..kind of feel two faced, lol

it is imortant to move the less you move the worse you will feel and the less mobility you will have again causing less movement and more pain. so some type of exersice or PT can be very benifical..If you cant get the help you need and they are not listening to you have your doc refer you somewhere else. the best for me and many others here is water swimming and even for some water areobics..try stretching the best you can every day..thereopy dept are also set up for relaxing type things heating pads, massages, stretching machines..there is more they can do to help you but be very honest with them and put your foot down if you have to

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

Well my PTist has been the best. She does not make me do anything that I can not do. I'm just tired. Right now she only have me laying on my stomach with a pillow under me. Then I am to move my hip to the right and hold for 10 mins rest(do 3 section). I have been going to PT since May and I'm just sick of it. Maybe me being sick of it, I just hurt thinking of it. I really don't know, the sciatica flare up really start to bothering me after my epidural. I did jump when meds were being injected. It had never hurt like it did this last time. Friends I'm just tired, I'm not at the stage of hurting myself. I have no get up and do anymore. The smile and postive I always try to hold is not there and I just feel lost. I'm crying more now, SSDI is now in the SVU hands and who's no how long it will take before I get an answers. I'm just damn depressed and in pain. But I love you all for being who you are. Oh and I do have sheets from PT but, she put a hold on all of them due to the pain they were causing me.

Dear RealityWorld,

I won't be presumptuous in thinking your pain and my pain are anything alike, but I have tried PT 3 times with 3 different people, for 6 weeks each, 3 times a week. Eventually, I could not do it anymore. It just made it worse.

I hope that some day there will be PT's trained for those who suffer from Fibro. It has became clear (to me anyway) that the Primary Care as well as Rehabilitation/Pain physicians get stymied, so they prescribed this to see what happens. Two of the three PT's told me that they were afraid to touch me. And these are professionals who are in the Silicon Valley associated with some of the best cutting edge resources, who work with professional athletes!

If it doesn't work for you, then it doesn't work for you, at least at this pace. I hope you don't think you are letting someone down by not benefiting from PT. It seems to me that most PT's are trained for more orthopedic problems and with Fibro, the curve of improvement is so much slower. One of the problems with the water therapy (I've found) is that even the heated pool is just too cold, or when you get out, you get too much of a temperature change. So it might be fine in the warmer months, but as it cools down, it might be harder to tolerate.

My unsolicited advice would be to maybe for now, stay in bed and try to stay on track with your medications, stay warm, let the sciatica calm down, watch only funny shows on TV, until the flare lightens up a bit. I stretch a little in bed when you feel like it.

Try not to fret about the housework, it can wait. And then, whatever you were doing before that you were able to tolerate - cut it in half. Sounds like the PT curve was just too steep and it smacked you down.

I'm so terribly sorry you are feeling like this. When I hit a low like this, I tell my doctor (psychiatrist) and we reevaluate my medication. Maybe a small bump up is in order for the time being and sometimes you can make a phone appointment.

I am only a patient, so disregard anything you think doesn't apply and tell your doctors how you are feeling. I usually write it down, because when I feel better, I forget how low I was. Reading back helps me remember what I need to address with them.

Light breezy hug.

Iris B.

I am not a doctor and my advice is my opinion based on my personal experiences and should be regarded as such. My hope is that my post can comfort someone who is feeling like they are alone. This is where we come to find out that we are not alone.

Iris B, thank you so much. Your statement is an eye opener and it makes a whole lots of common sense. At frist PT had me doing about 6 different things. And crazy me was trying to do as I was told. But in reality (I just love that word) I was hurting myself. Thank you.

Since you mention the different therapist . I also went for 6 weeks the first time (no relief). Then I ended up have complete reconstruction surgery on my right foot. Due to tendon, and flat foot. Then there was 9 weeks of PT for foot (I think that went well) then right back in to PT for FM and lower back ( been there now for 4 weeks twice a week and no relief. I feel so much better until I have to do the task and everything just start to hurt all over again and sometimes worse..

I'm an Advocate

Reality world I'm so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. PT didn't work for me either, after every session I would hobble out to my car and be so thankful I wasn't driving cuz my arms weren't working. I even tried doing them at home and it hurt so much I couldn't stand it. I finally told my PCP that I couldn't take the pain from it. She told me that she wouldn't make me go back, but would I consider massage therapy, no way was I gonna let someone rub and and squeeze my already sore tender body. Nu uh no way. So that was the end of PT for me. I hope you can find some relief with warm baths, relaxing music, a warm drink and lite stretching... like a cat in the sun. Take extra special care of yourself dear.

Thanks to all. I hate that as many folks are going through this. Just think how many don't know about this site. And it's claim not to know what to do to help. But everywhere you read FM is listed.
