Just wondering if anyone has had a symptom of hair loss with fibro? I have noticed significant hair loss for the last year or so...and haven't seen it listed as a symptom anywhere, just wondering if any of you have noticed this along with your fibro.

I haven't even mentioned this to my doc yet...and all this past year was thinking oh its stress, or I'm just getting older, but all the other things that were happening to me turned out to be symptoms of fibro...so I just figured I would ask.

Yup...jeesh...does it EVER end??? LOL

I have gone from very thick hair almost down to my butt, to thinned out shoulder length with layers to make it look thicker!

I thought, stress too, but I'm not soo sure about that! I'm happier than ever now (well, all things considered) and still...lose it every morning! But, I do take a 'fat pill' and hair loss is a side effect of that as well.

So, the big question...

Since I have Fibro...do I want to be:

FAT with long, beautiful hair? or...

Skinny and bald!

Ahhhhhhhhhh...decisions, decisions!!!!

I think it's Fibro...I'm excited to see what others say about this!!!

I've never had a problem with hair loss but it does pose the idea of not knowing what is "normal" for us fibros and what is a symptom of something else. i had strep throat for several days before going to the doctor and was shocked when i found out i had strep. how do we know when it's something else?

I think that is from some meds that are taken. My hair is still thick but I know when I first when on my one ra med I started to lose hair. Now mine has stopped or at least slowed down.

my take on it is check your thyroid levels. Hair loss, fatique, difficulty sleeping, intolerance to cold/heat, constipation/frequest bowel movements, abdominal pain, sweatiny palms all can be signs of wither hypo or hyper thyroid. Any of these things sound familiar lol. So many of these symptoms are things we experience everyday sa like coffe said how do we know if it is something else or not. Even for those who may already be on thyroid medication if your symptoms change and your level hasn't been checked in a while ask to have it done. I'm not saying that your particular case BeachBum is or isn't but I would definately check it.

I have been a hairstylist for 28 years, I have had my thyroid checked so many times in hope that there is a reason (besides fibro)for gaining so much weight.

This past year I have lost soooooo much hair, its freaking me out a bit.

I'm not on any different meds,or different stress, or any of the other reasons for hair loss.....my hair was the last beautiful thing I had left, now thats going away too.....WHATEVER!

When asking your Dr. to test your thyroid make sure that you ask for a complete panel and not just a TSH test. there are many times where a TSH level is normal but the t3,t4 ect are not. Most Dr.s only check the TSH. Just one thing that can be ruled out

Geez, well I hardly have any hair. And I use Rogaine, been using it for...way too long. I even asked for it for Christmas. It's kinda costly!! But neither does my sister, or mother. My father had no hair, and my brother lost most of his hair right after his graduation photo. So I don't know if I can blame it on fibro.

And I just noticed sweaty palms, as a thyroid problem...geez, I got that too. But my father had that also.

What's a girl to think...
