Hi everyone .. Im MK, I was diagnosed with fibro about 2 years ago. My mom, brother, aunt and cousin also have fibro. I am taking Lyrica twice a day along with lortabs (also for my arthritis) I would like to hear comments about pain meds, pain managment and even home remedies. I wish we were all pain-free but since that's not happening...I would like to talk with others who know how I feel, especially on those BAD days! thanks Smile

MK,

Welcome to our group! Glad you joined us. There are a lot of great people here that have a lot of great suggestions, and who truly understand the problems that fibro brings to the table. I would like to invite you to read previous posts as there is a lot of good information in them. We are a big family here, and are not only helpful, but very supportive and caring. You came to the right place.

As far as meds go, there are several different ones that affect each of us differently. For example, I cannot take Lyrica, it was worthless for me. They then put me on Cymbalta for the nerve pain. I am also on percocet, morphine tabs, ambien, and robaxin. I guess the percocet helps me the most. The only thing about percs is because it is cut with Tylenol, it is bad on your liver and kidneys. Unfortunately, you will have to find the "cocktail" of meds that works best for you. It is not a science and therefore it takes time. I have only been diagnosed since March, and I'm still not satisfied with the meds I take. There are some here who have for the most part found their mixture and are fairly controlled, but there again, it doesn't happen overnight.

One thing that does help a lot of us, is the use of a heating pad. Cold seems to aggravate the fibro, and heat seems to calm it. Also, taking baths with epsom salts is a big help. From my understanding, the epsom salt has magnesium in it, that soaks in and that's what makes you feel better. Also, water itself is a help, because it makes you weightless, and therefore the pressure is off. So, if you can find a pool, or spa, it will prolly help.

I hope I have been of some assistance to you, and sure that there are others that will give you some of their experiences for more ideas. Again, welcome to our family!!HUGS

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

Welcome MK. I also do the heating pad and epsom salt things. Normal meds don't work for me. I would suggest getting your vit d, b, and magnesium checked if you can. Vit d deficiency is quite common and can lead to increased pain as well as early onset osteoporosis. Vit B complex deficiencies can lead to fatigue among other things.

Hi and welcome. I take a LOT of meds,Lexapro,Restoril,Topamax,Ativan,Seroquel,Restoril,Vicod in ES. There are more but Im not going to go on LOL. My opinion is that anyone who has FM should use a sleeping medication,as restful sleep is very important. Feel free to ask questions, and look through old posts. And I hope you find the support and friendship Ive found here.
