MDJunction to me

neshama48"Having Crohn's Disease for over 26 years, in the first few years, it lonely and isolating.
Though now my disease is in a near perfect remission, my friends and family are sympathetic to me, but I can not talk to them about this disease. When I stumbled across MD Junction, and met others who had the same disease I was not alone in battling the disease. MD Junction is like a second family, without the judgement or guilt of having Crohn's Disease, but they do give you love and support.

Ok, I have a question for everyone. I usually wake up with some kind of pain, but lately I wake up with my back having shooting pain. I can't seem to get comfortable until I am vertical. It usually takes an hour or so for the pain to subside. Does anyone else deal with this? If so, what do you do besides take the pain meds?

I started taking Lyrica and since i started my pain is cut in half. Except my back and my neck up the back of my head. Yes I have the same problem. Lyrica doesnt help with my back pain and i am not on any pain meds. I use a heating pad at night ANd just last night i asked my husband, it seems that heat sometimes helps and other times it only makes it worse.

Now waking up, it seems i have a hitch in standing up straight. SOon as i get past that pain spot I am able to stand up. It does take awhile for the pain to subside so i can offically start my day. I know your pain.

My doctor gave me some biofreeze. ANd it seemed to take the edge off for awhile. Then it stopped working. Or my pain intensified even. Or it could be that the lyrica worked on the rest of my body and now my focus was my back and it didnt feel as good as the rest of my body. You know who knows.

THis is the most complicated of illnesses. Its unreal!

At least we have each other right?

I have the same trouble as you. Things that I try are:

~Really hot bath just prior to bedtime.

~Sleeping with a pillow between or under my legs.

~Sleeping with pillow under my arms.

~We recently purchased a 3" egg crate foam thing from Overstock.com and it does seem to help some.

I also take pain meds and I still have some trouble. But these things do seem to ease the pain somewhat.

Although- when I'm in a flare (which is pretty much all winter), there's not much releif.

I do hope that you will find some relief soon. Take Care.

Every morning is the same for me. i feel like i can hardly move. a hot shower or bath helps but it isn't always possible. the soles of my feet hurt when they toch the carpet. i usually wear my soft house shoes for the first hour. I've been trying to stretch while still in the bed. i get the stabbing pain in my legs and don't know what to do for it. heat helps and massage sometimes.

this is a weird illness.

Oh yes, mornings are the worst. I have to try & scooch to my bedpost & use that to pull myself upright & then out of bed. Nothing really helps, just walking around some to try & loosen up. oh yeah & get the meds into my system.

I agree with what everyone has written. At least I am not the only one in the boat I guess. Sorry for all of your pain. Sad It stinks to wake up feeling this way.

I too have all of the pillows, the soft slippers and such. In fact, I have so many pillows that I might as well have a separate bed from my hubby. LOL I have to move the pillows to have any sort of intimate time and then it can only happen if I have taken the pain meds. (Very short window of time, which can be frustrating.)

Sorry, I guess I need to vent today. I have been in pain all week and am waiting anxiously for the Tues when I go to the pain clinic.

I hope that others of you are feeling better than me today. Sorry to be such a downer. Sad

So does anyone get pain at the base of their neck? I am guessing so. Heat and/or ice don't always help. It helps to lay down and take the pressure off my neck, but then there is that nagging back pain...any input?

I pretty much do all of the above,

I sleep on an electric blanket (under bottom sheet)

I try to sleep on my back, sleeping on my stomach makes me arch my back, so then it hurts. I prop about 7 or 8 pillows around my body so I wont roll over. same with the neck issues...I think sleeping on your back would help.

I also rub Aspercream on my neck...it really helps.

My pain is always worse when I wake up. Not sure if it's that my meds wear off or if I am still too long or if it's from the alignment of the planets or what. I can't even pinpoint where it hurts most, it's just all over. Heat does help me, I haven't tried cold, I get cold so easily and then I tense up and then it agony, so I am afraid to even try.
