The sleep study I had done showed I wake up 98 times, and spend less than 26 minutes in actual REM sleep. We haven't found an actual combination that helps because so many drugs I cannot take. Elevil and a couple others increase my pulse rate too much and its already 115+ often for no reason at all. Then some I cannot take because of possible reactions with my kidney transplant medications and other medications.. it is a mess. The rhumatologist I started seeing here in Wyoming, doesn't believe in Fibro but is my only option, right now.. I will see her again.. for the first time in 5 months I guess.. since I went back to GA to visit and kinda missed my followup with her.... She at least figured out my other problems with the Ehler's Danlos when the other doctors were stumped.. she can't be all bad

I am surprised that the Doctor did not recommend a CPAP Machine for sleeping.

Maybe you can ask about it?

Hang in there. Sleep and me do not get along either.

It is so frustrating. I can totally relate.

I have never heard of a Rheumatologist that does not "believe" in Fibromyalgia.

Is there another Rheumatologist that you can go to?

Don't give up!

I look at it like most of us did with our babies schedual so their body new it was bed time, the same thing everynight, though it doesnt keep us a sleep and times it doesnt work at all, but taking a bath getting dressed for bed going at the same time reading or watching a move and for me meletonin helps put me in the bed time mood..also I have relised getting up at the same time every morning is a must if I stay in bed because I can I feel so bad that day hurt more and am more tierd..

I had gotton to the point I couldnt stay awake for anything and that is why the sleep med it took awhile to find the right one and it wound up being and over the counter but it made a huge diffrence,of course I tried to convince my doc I dont want mre sleep I sleep to much then he exsplained about rehlm sleep

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

i just saw this posting and wanted to reply. I have trouble sleeping as well and my doc put me on elavil 20 mg at bedtime since dec 12 2011. I do not see any imporvement in fact last week I only got 2 hours of sleep in a 42 hour period. I'm gonna see my doc this week to talk about this sleep thing, I never get to REM state, I thought is was because I'm a mom and have mom radar on, even though my kids are in their teens. I always feel like I never slept or like today felt like a truck hit me, everything on my body hurt including my hair on the backof my head.

Anita,

That truck has been running rampid for months now. I think everyone here has been hit by it at least once. Did you happen to get the license plate number?

Sorry...just trying to lighten things up. I know melatonin is good for sleeping, and it is over the counter. If the elavil is not helping you, you definately need something else. 2 hours in 42 hours is not acceptable. I would ask the dr about the melatonin and if that doesn't work, see if he will give you a differnt script. Hope you sleep tonite. HUGS

Please do not take anything I say as medical advice. I am not a doctor.

I'm an Advocate

I often wonder about our sleep with Fibro also ~~~

It doesn t seem to matter if I sleep 4 hours or 8, I always seem to need more and can always take an afternoon nap. I hate it that my ""nap"" used to be 20 minutes and now can last up to 2 HOURS and I still don t feel rested. Sad

I gave up on the idea of relaxation. I can get into a stage of REM sleep but my brain for what ever reasons decides that is enough and shuts it off. I go through this 12 times a night. The constant disruption causes me to be exhausted in the morning

have any of you been tested for sleep apnea? If u have it, you wake up feeling like you were hit by a truck!! It might be worth looking into...

anyway, i wish you all better sleep soon.
