Does anyone know of a web site where you can do a free background check on a prospective new Dr.?

You can call the local hospital where you live and the doctor is practicing and ask for referrals. And of course ask for background information on this doctor. I don't know of another way to check but I have used the hospital as a good place to have some questions answered. Hope this helps some. And that others come along soon and give you additional information.

Take care. Olga

I talked to my pharmacist to see what she has to day about the doc I was looking at. and I did find a site that gave me a bit more info. So I finally decided on a new doc. Now I just have to make my first apt and see how it works out. I found out that he is a gp, but he also knows about fibro and other problems that I have. Besides the fact that he went to med school in U.S.A and that was a big thing for me. I really hope that this one works out. Thanks, I still may just call the hospital and see what they have to say about him. Thanks for the idea.

Just google your docs name and all sorts of stuff will come up if he has had problems and also you will get his Curriculum vitae....also contact your country medical board, and state medical board as well.

Thank you, I will look for the county medical board number. and see what they say. I am going to call tomorrow for my first apt and see how it goes. if I don't like him, I can always change again next month.

I was at my daughter's softball practice last night and I overheard a dad talking about fibromyalagia and my ears perked up. I don't know if he was talking about himself or his wife but he mentioned going to a doctor in what sounded like Rimen, New York. I don't know if I am spelling it right but my good friend was the one he was talking to and I am seeing her tonight so I am going to ask her what he said. He seems approachable so I may even ask him next practice myself. I'll keep you guys here in the northeast posted.

Part of the New health care plan will be making it more difficult to change doctors, they want to cut down on "doctor" hopping for controlled substances.

The sad thing is, besides more control over us, is that you could get stuck with an awful doctor and never be able to get out from under.

The number of people hopping is far smaller than the number of patients needing to change because they guessed wrong and are stuck with a duck of a doc who doesn't believe in fibro and wont medicate for pain.

So again, FibroWarriors, know your state's laws: most States in the US have laws requiring Doctors to take pain seriously. And blanket comments that opiates dont help fibro pain are short sighted! You could be having arthritic pain that worsens the fibro pain.
