good morning everyone! Up at 1am again. This is my fourth night of NO sleep... not even and hour.

My doctor started me on welbutrin on Tuesday and I haven't slept since. My heart starts racing just from standing up from the couch. Its scaring me. yesterday the shakes started in, probably from no sleep. Not sure what to do at this point as I still have to work. Is anyone else taking Welbutrin?

Good Morning Awarre~ I have been on wellbutrin sr 150 mg for years and it doesn't affect me like that. I was put on it for my panic attacks.....only I don't think it helps me with that much anymore. I have been having really bad ones again. The symptoms you are talking about are symptoms that I have for my panic attacks. Maybe you should call the doctor and let them know how you are feeling. I know my doctor tried many different meds before they put me on the wellbutrin. Some of them I had horrible side affects form. I remember they put me on cymbeltia before the wellburtin. Boy was that awful. I know lot of people swear by it....but for me it was terrible. I was sick for the month and a half I was on it. The only good thing that happened from it was that I dropped 50 pounds like thatSmile. I was still sick a few weeks after I stopped taking it...I guess till it was all out of my system. I was throwing up all day longSick. Maybe you just are having terrible side affects from just starting it. But if it continues for a week or so I would defiantly call your doctor. You might need to be put on something else. Hope things get better for you soon.

I'm with Julie, Contact your doctor and tell him about the problems you are having. It could be an adverse effect from the Welbutrin.

I haven't tried Welbutrin, but have been on Cymbalta for 3 years. It didn't help with the pain but it did help with my well being. If your meds don't make you feel better, than they are not the right ones for you. I agree with Jul, you need to talk to your doctor.

Julie, 50 pounds WOW! I wish that it did the same for me. I've tried everything and the weight will not budge.

OK, being sick is't the way to do it.

I belive we each know our bodies. When something isn't right WE know it. That goes for when we are sick or the meds that we take. One size does not fit all.

Good luck. Smile

Shirley

I've been on Wellbutrin for years (10+,) and the first thing my doctor warned me about was not to take the pill after 3:00 p.m. One of the side effects is insomnia. I had so much trouble remembering to take my 2nd pill before 3:00, that this year I finally switched to Wellbutrin XL - only 1 pill each day! That I can remember!Wink

I would definitely contact your doctor, and you might want to contact your pharmacist to ask about the side effects you are having. I really only had insomnia from the Wellbutrin. My husband is a pharmacist, so if you want to PM me with any questions, I'll ask him for you.

Gentle Hugs,
Carla

I agree with everyone Awarre...I think you should call your doctor and let him know how you are feeling. That is no good not getting any sleep, and feeling like your heart is racing. You need to get as much rest as you can in order for your muscles to relax. Keep us posted!

Awarre, I just checked on Drugs.com and found this info:

Wellbutrin

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Wellbutrin:

Constipation; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; headache; increased sweating; loss of appetite; nausea; nervousness; restlessness; taste changes; trouble sleeping; vomiting; weight changes.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when using Wellbutrin:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; confusion; delusions; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or sore throat; hallucinations; hearing problems; menstrual changes; new or worsening mental or mood changes (eg, concentration problems, panic attacks, aggressiveness, agitation, anxiety, impulsiveness, irritability, hostility, exaggerated feeling of well-being or inability to sit still); red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe headache or dizziness; severe or persistent joint or muscle pain; severe or persistent nervousness, restlessness, or trouble sleeping; shortness of breath; suicidal thoughts or attempts; tremor; unusual swelling; vision changes; worsening depression.

Notice that a fast heartbeat is listed under SEVERE side effects and that you should seek medical right away.

Thank you so much... I called my doctor this morning, her on call back up just told me to stop taking the medication and go in on Monday. I am getting pretty nervous. My chest feels tight and my blood pressure is a little high. normally it runs low. Thank you again for looking that up for me...

How are you doing now Awarre? Feeling better? I took Welbutrin for years and never had any problems with it, but I don't think it really did much for my depression either.

I'm on Cymbalta now and it works great for me. No depression and it's really controlling my pain, so far anyway. I was really anxious when I started Cymbalta and it really helped with that too.

Make sure you have written record of how you felt while taking Welbutrin...that way you won't get side tracked and leave out any of your symptoms.

Good luck tomorrow!
