I went to the doctor today to try and get some better pain relief. Almost all the medications he suggested I've tried and can't take. The others I don't want to take because of the risk of side effects. He finally asked me to try celebrex for 2 weeks and come back, and we could discuss where to go from there. I went to the pharmacy to pick it up and was told that not only does it require prior authorization but my insurance has been changed and I can only get 4 prescriptions a month, so it wouldn't be covered anyway. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!Angry Oh and he was talking about other antidepressants. The prozac is doing just fine for that and I say leave well enough alone cause right now I'm not depressed I'm @#%%$%$#^##@ angry! Angry because no one is helping me.

The other option he gave me was going to a pain clinic. I'm thinking maybe that's my best option right now, but I don't know what to expect. What would they do that he can't?

Can anyone recommend a good doctor for fibro or a good pain clinic in West Virginia?

If someone doesn't give me something for this pain soon I'm going to end up buying off the street.Devil

Not really but at this point it's awfully tempting. It would be easier.

Hi amommy02,

I'm sorry I can't help you with a dr. as I live in Michigan. but I wanted to offer you support and let you know we are thinking about you. I know that doesn't help your pain, but I am hoping to offer some comfort.

I certainly understand about the health insurance as well, mine barely covers anything either and now I have to wait until January to even be able to see another rheumatologist because I can't afford the office call.

Hang in there as best you can.

and probably cheaper! I'm so sorry you're going through all this. I'm no where near West Virgina so I can't help you there.

I can't believe your insurance only allows you 4 rxs a month...that's ridiculous and just shouldn't be allowed. I hate insurance companies.

I used to take Welbutrin but my doctor switched me to Cymbalta for depression and pain. It IS approved for pain for fibromyalgia and it seems to work OK for me. I'm not depressed (it's almost scary how NOT depressed I am!) AND I only need an NSAID and a muscle relaxer. I get rashes from opioids so I avoid them whenever possible. So far my pain is managed.

Good luck finding a doctor. If nothing else, contact the nearest American Arthritis Society and see if they can recommend a local doctor for you.

Hi amommy02,

I go to a pain clinic. When my doctor, whom I absolutly love, couldn't come up with anyother ideas for pain meds for me he referred me to a pain clinic. My doctor said that he was not well versed with pain meds for someone who is in alot of pain. With a pain doc, he is specialized in this type of medicine. Mine has helped alot. But I live in New Hampshire. Good luck in your venture to find a good paim doc.

Jenn

I just want to let you all know that I am just like you, a regular person. I am not a doctor or a therapist, but I do promise to be there and listen as often as I can.
Hugs and Peace,
Jenn

You also have to be really careful some pain clinics are not really into treating fibro. I seen one where I live and they basicly kicked me to the curb and told me that it was my rhummy job to take care of the pain not theres. So be really careful and check with the clinic before you make the appointment.
Keep fighting. Fighting back is sometimes harder than being diagnosed. Each day is a new challenge. But you can over come what ever you put your mind to.

I just saw my pain clinic guy today. $100 for less than 5 min. Guy is useless. Said they don't treat FM there and that I need to see a psycologist! He is willing to continue prescribing my Norco, but I don't know for how long. I think he is only prescribing it because I was already on it when I went to see him.

I know the feeling. My DRS. want me to come in at least very month and before I even go in there I know it's going to be a Hi and Bye. The last two drs I saw: one had another dr knock on the door before I was even done and turn around and said I will see you in 4 weeks and the other one I waited an hour to see and he got a phone call and left me sitting more just to say basically nothing.

I get angry and stop going for a while but for my disability I feel like I have no choice.

It is to bad that when you called they didn't ask what you were being seen for and tell you then that they did not do FM.

Oh my gosh you guys have had some horrible experiences. I am so sorry. My doc just told me that if the Lyrica (which my insurance is fighting about paying for) didn't work then she is sending me to a pain clinic and I am scared to go. No more doctors! No more doctors! I finally found one I like. That four prescriptions a month is bologna! do you have an option to switch to something else?

No option. I have medicaid and this was just sprung on me. I'm calling them in the morning to see what is going on. I knew they were making some changes with medicaid but I was supposed to get a letter and have the opportunity to sign up for an enhanced plan. I never got a letter!

After looking up celebrex I don't think I want to take it anyway. Seems it can have some nasty side effects.

Oh, I forgot something. They are refusing to pay for Ultram ER. My doctor has tried three times now to get it approved and they denied it. It works a lot better for me than the regular tramadol. One reason for that is I can't remember to take anything 4 times a day.
