MDJunction to me

mabri"When I was diagnosed about 18 months ago with fibromyalgia, I didn't know where to turn. I got on my computer and looked for a support group where I could talk to other people with the same disease and get some help...Information, suggestions, mostly just what I can do now that I have this.....disorder/disease/syndrome...I didn't even know what to call it. I found MDJ, and yes, there was a support group for fibro. I started a post, and figured I would never get an answer. However, very quickly I was welcomed in, and became really involved in the group. I received help, support, friendship and the feeling of being truly cared about by these strangers who had become like family to me. Now, I have been here for about a year and a half...I have become a group leader, and love every minute of it. It is so wonderful to be able to help others. I still receive help and answers from the members in this group. The fibromyalgia is where I go to help, support, listen, care and even laugh. I don't know what I would do without this group." I'm wondering if any of you have had to quit your job, or got fired because of your health? And if you still work, do you work full-time or part-time?

Had to quit mine. Could not continue to work anymore due to the pain and fatigue. I miss it.

I actually switched jobs...I was a paralegal (desk job for the most part) and now am a Correctional Officer (very physically intensive)...I have found that the more physical I am, the less time I have to think about how bad I hurt. I actually tore my Left rotator cuff a week and a half ago during DT (defensive tactics) and that added with the fibro has made most days excrutiating! I have to visit an ortho surgeon this week, but yet I still plug on! Either I am really stubborn or very stupid! LOL

I did not work from 6-98 til 7-2000 was denied disibility so I returned to work as a housekeeper in hotel. I worked for 4 years, living on pain pills and in agony everyday. I had cut down to 3 days a week and switched to laundry and room checker and still could not do it so I quit again in 3-2004. From then until 2007, I did nothing but stay home I got myself into a very good schedule and was able to stop all pain meds except some OTC's for pain that was not bad at all.. Money problems were my reason to start again, babysitting my grandson and since that time I am having severe back and neck pain and have been back on higher pain meds for that and my Fibro has also escalated in severity again too...I have to keep this job at least until the Doctor decides to back me up on the disibility. Fat chance

I still work 40+ hours a week. I have a desk job at an accounting firm. Not physically demanding, but it is mentally tiring. I'm exhausted by the weekend.

I still work 20 hours a week, more if I can get the hours (for financial reasons). I love my job but it is so exhausting at times. I work for the library, processing new materials, but often I work as a clerk checking material in and out to patrons, shelving books and other things.

It is physically exhausting but it's always been my dream to work in a library.

But to be completely honest, if I could afford it I would stay home because most days it's such a chore to get out of bed and force myself to go to work.

I'm an Advocate

Yep, still working here also ...hopefully, I can make it 2 1/2 more years but most days I don t know at all.

I work mostly 10 hour days (retail). Once I am up and moving in the morning , I can t complain about the pain but I really start getting fatigued about 1:30 PM.

By the time I get home around 5ish, I m exhausted but still fix evening meals and dishes. Later is when my pain starts ...Once I sit/lay down for the evening, my legs are on fire and feels like hot pokers from hips to knees.

I am on Lyrica but since I don t like taking meds, I don t take it until just before bedtime. It does help my nighttime rest.

I am still working but was only diagnosed last March. I work in HR so at times it is high stress when I mess something up from the fog. I am beginning to really not like my job. I think just because I have to have such a high attention to detail and when I am in a fog it's really hard. But I can't make the same money doing something that is easier. The web we weave Smile But with today's economy I am happy to have a job period. I hope to one day find something that I love to do and I think if you have passion and are able to do something that you love it makes getting up and going to work so much easier and fufilling. When I was working in the prisons and actually making a difference in the lives of people even just a little bit it made things so much better. Now all I do is payroll stuff and filing and well a bunch of other stuff like dealing with all of the issues. It can be high stress and mentally exhausting but for the most part it's not so bad. Whoops sorry for rambling on. I work full time 9/80s which means 47.5 hours on my long weeks (this week) and 38 hours on my short weeks. Every other Friday off is wonderful! Smile
