Just wondering if there is a link between fibromyalgia and chronic yeast. I just developed fingernail fungus (not too thrilled about it) and feel it is due to my poor immune system. Nothing else makes sense as to why I got it. Do any of you take probiotics and if so which ones? Thanks!

Fibromite,

I have a small dot of fungus on my thumb nail from wearing fake nails, but I 've never had a problem til now. From all my reading and own experience, yes there is a link. Some theorists suggest that there is an overgrowth of yeast and fungus that leads to the toxins in our bodies resulting in pain. I don't know if I agree with that theory, but when I first was positive for the Epstein Barr virus, (though I had mono in high school and they say you can't get it again), I had "thrush". In my mouth, yuck. My doc took me out of work for 5 months and it took that long to get rid of it. Several medications, a specialist etc.

I believe that was the virus that took over my body and led to the fibro and chronic fatigue because during that 5 month period, I started having tingling and numbing in my hands and feet, was dizzy, had restless leg terrible, migranes, IBS, you name it, it kept coming. The pain started in my pinky finger and then spread to my hips, knees, arms, shoulders, back etc. All of it started with the positive Epstein Barr which an Infectious Disease doc said it wasn't mono, was some other strain of it.

I am sick constantly and I have a cold sore it seems every few weeks. I am probably going to get B shots to get some energy as I am so weak. sorry so long

Kristine

Just a suggestion.....BUT.....why don't you take off the fake nails?

I think that it would allow your body and your nails with the "fungus" to try to heal naturally.

Think about it! Wink

Unless you already removed them? Dizzy

I, too have the under the nail fungus on two of my toes. I've had it most of my life. They don't bother me so I've never worried with it. There have been a couple of times though, where the nail fell off after i hit them on something. Now, that was cool! LMAO!!!

If you find anything out about this, please let us know! Smile

I get yeast all over except the nail thing. I get lines and yeast on my tongue. Also under my chest where the bra hits at the bottom. I also constantly have vaginal yeast as well. Do you think this is part of fibro? My thought is it is because the immune system is going crazy. Do you any of get this all over.

I am going on a yeast free diet and started acidophilus so we'll see what happens. The symptoms of candida and fibro. are so similiar I would love to see how I feel after a few weeks. I'll let you all know. It will be hard staying away from sugar, however.

I wish you luck with the "no sugar" diet. I couldn't do it. I have too much of a sweet tooth. I usually use artificial sweetner such as equal, when I can as I am trying to lose weight from the med side effects. Anyways I agree that our immune systems are messed up and that does make us susceptible to other problems. I haven't had problems with yeast other than the first incident when the fibro was starting. I've never had fungal problems except with this one nail that got water underneath the fake one. There is a fibromyalgia book out there, sorry I can't remember the title that has a whole chapter about "yeast" and how our body's have an overabundance of it and how you can't eat this or that (bread, sweets, etc). If I am in pain and exhausted all the time, I can't just eat veggies, meat and certain fruits. UUGGHHH!!! I'd go insane. I do eat yogurt every day and it seems to keep things aligned. I heard Greek yogurt is supposed to be even better for you. Good luck

Day 2 - It is hard to stay away from sugar. I had a salad for lunch and I feel sooo hungry. I am craving carbs badly and it stinks. I want a hoagie or something and keep thinking chicken and fish and veggies. How much can I eat of that for weeks?
