ok so my doctor said they are going to give me humira shots. first they where going to prescribe methotrexate however they changed their mind and want me to try the humira first.

Have any of you taken this. The doc that I am going to has no bed side manner. He scares me when he talks about the side effects of both of the medications.

Have any of you have good results taking this medication? Lets just say i am find with shots however I am freaking out about myself or my husband giving it to me. I am so nervus.

I am feel like I am at the end of the rope and I have tried several hundred meds as most of you have probably and I don't know what else but this.

Thank you again guys for your support. i am glad to be back posting with you all. I did not relize what I was missing.

They use those for FM? They were suggested for my son who has Crohn's ....that's why I'm wondering.

Hey. My daughter who has JIA(juvinile idiopathis arthritis) is on enbrel and MTX. She's doing sooooooooo much better. Her pain complaints have dropped tremendously. We do two shots every Friday. The humeria is every other week though I believe. Her pedi rheumy is thinking about swapping her to it. The MTX takes longer to work while the humeria(the new biologics) work much faster. Both do have serious side effects but your dr should keep a good eye on you. Make sure you adhere to the liver testing schedules that you were given. We test every two to three months. Her next one is in March.

Also why are you going on these? RA?

Thank you.

Kimbaskicks The doc said that they medication is an autoimmune suppressant. Apparently that helps people who have swelling around their tendons and joint pains. They have not diagnosed me with arthritis however they say that it might (key word might help). I know I read online that it is used for other diseases like Chrons too. Who knows? Well one will see I am scared but I pray it helps tomorrow. I am just worried of the fact my husband is giving it to me but I guess only God knows.

Thank you for the help and wisdom!

I'm sure he's given or going to give you the info, but please make sure no live vaccines(like flumist, oral polio, etc), don't go around people with chicken pox, and know that you can and probably will get sick easier. I tote some lysol wipes around for grocery stores etc. Hope it helps. Let me know what you think after you start.

Oh and they say that with the biologics like enbrel and humeria, they work really quickly. Madison was almost pain free after shot number two. Like that next day.

hatbox121 thanks I may not even be taking it. I am so depressed because i went to go pick up the shot prescription 20 min ago and the insurance denied coverage of the medication. The pharmacy said it now has to go through the second round of approvals. That is all i needed today. The Cost for the shots is going to be $2,000!!!!!!!!! Let's just say the sky isn’t raining down money. Unless the insurance comes back and says they will pay a big chunk of it I will not be able to afford it. I am so sad. I have been on over 350 meds in 11 years and The doc said this has a good possibility in helping me. And now I might not even get to take the meds.

thank you for your help.

Madison's enbrel is 1800 per month. Have you thought about contacting humeria for assistance? They have a program that will help cover whatever the insurance doesn't or if insurance doesn't they can send it to you for a small copay. Thankfully Madison's insurance pays all but $10 of hers so it's not a huge deal with us, but without insurance we would so be on the assisstance thing. Also if that doesn't work, MTX while slower acting is much much cheaper. It takes 6 months or so to help, but it's only 30 dollars or so for a small vial. Plus 4 for the insulin needles.

I have been on Humira for 2 mths now for my psoriatic arthritis. The only complaint that I have is that it seems to be causing my Fibro to flare, but I am not completely sure if it really is or not, so don't take that to serious.

I haven't had any other side effects but it hasn't helped me either, but I have a resistent case so that is contributing to it.

I have heard of many others having a lot of success on this med. Like others said avoid live vacinations, don't take it if you come down sick, especially a infection. And others have said it makes them more suceptable to a sunburn.

The injection really aren't that bad, but make sure to let it warm up before you inject it, it can be out of the fridge for up to an hour before it can go bad. I usually let mine warm up for 20-30 mins. It stings a bit but there is not suringe or loading of medicine to worry about since its a pen.

good luck

My dx: Psoriatic Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Sjogren's syndrome, Degenerative disc disease, 2 herniated discs, Endometriosis, TMJ, IBS, Costocondritis, bipolar, and possible Anklydosis Spondylitis.
