It would be funny but in addition to knowing not receive his retirement check at the beginning of January they have gone into our account and taken his last two checks back and I have been kicked off the medical plan I am own which means I may not get to see the doctor about the diabetes tomorrow and I may not be able to get prescriptions filled that I don't have the money to pay for anyway.

I do plan to apply for food stamps but not sure we will qualify because I think they go by your latest tax return.

I am going to start looking for emergency aid locally but does anyone know any other sources anywhere? We are destitute!

Thanks so much. I'm trying to stay positive and on that note I did have a dream last night and decided to make a funny over it....

Gil likes to sit in his office listening to music with the headphones on and when he does he can't hear anything. Last night I dreamed the army decided in addition to him being dead that I had killed him. The sent M.P.s to get me and when I answered the door they started to take me into custody and I started screaming for him to come tell them he was alive and of course he was listening to music in his office. After I woke up I decided I should have let them take me. At least I could get fed and medical care! I wonder what would happen if I contacted the Army and "confessed."

oh my God.. for one thing Im confused how could they kick you off the medical and such..I thought you got that even in death..wow how do you prove your not dead, lol if he walked in they might think he was a ghost pertending to be alive...

when you go for food stamps they should be able to tell you of programs..if you need emergancey food they should have a food bank or something like it..several churches also have programs to help..also they do hsave programs to help with eltric bills..you might call your utilities and other places you owe and exsplain what has happend..I am so sorry you are going through this

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

Previous discussions I participated in:
disability
unusual pain triggers

I am using a doctor on base. I can do that as a retiree dependent if the base medical facilities have space for me. That way I do not have to pay a co-pay and get medication carried in the military pharmacy for free. I am qualified for some of the Tricare insurance plans as a surviving spouse but not that. I would/will have to find an off base doctor and pay a co-pay of up to 25% based on which plans I am authorized to use for both doctor visits and prescriptions. The plan I was on allowed me to use off base doctors and pharmacies for a $12 doctor co-pay and a $3-$22 prescription co-pay but from what they are saying I think I would lose that and have to go to the 25% co-pay which since we not only have no money and will not be getting any at the first of the month we are severely overdrawn because the decided he died in October and collected the last two retirement checks back out of our account. There is money I will collect when he dies but I have to sign up for it and trying to do so now would probably not only confuse the situation further but could subject me to fraud charges. As a matter of fact not notifying them he was "dead" can get me in trouble with them so the situation could really end up with cops at my door before this whole thing is over. In the governments eyes I supposedly committed fraud by accepting and spending the November and December the checks. I don't know if they routinely file charges in such cases or not.

I'm not quite understanding either. Maybe I am not reading this correctly. Did they not deposit your husband's check each month. If not, did you not notice this? I can understand that if you are used to direct deposit, but then it seems checks would be bouncing or something and how did they determine he was dead?? Wow! Mistakes are made everyday, but this is something else!

My husband is retired Army. We use direct deposit. The checks for November and December came into our account as normal. The money was spent as usual. Our bank says the moneys for November and December were taken back out sometime this week because he had supposedly died in October. We have traced the bad information as coming from the VA recently when they updated his records with the Army to say that he had died. We are planning to go to the VA in a nearby city tomorrow and find out what happened there. The VA is for any veteran but the check for my husbands retirement pay comes in for a separate organization call retirement services.

We discovered the problem yesterday when I tried to change a medical appointment on base and was told I could no longer use the on base facilities for medical care. My husband as the sponsor(what the military calls the military member of the military family) contacted Tricare (our insurance provider) and asked why and was told because I was a widow.

My Hubby was at the court house this morning because there is a VA representative supposed to be there sometimes but he wasn't today. While there he talked to the Circuit Clerk who I went to school with and we happen to know personally. He was able to supply information on a form my husband can get and send in through him. He said this usually happens at least 2 or 3 times a year in our county alone. In fact this is not the first time it has happened to my husband. It happened on time while he was in the service. In spite of the fact that he was active duty and serving at the time it took he and his chain of command 3 months to get straightened out so he was getting paid again.
