I called a attorney and they told me that I had to apply and get turned down before they could talk to me. I guess I am stupid because the paperwork totaly confused me and I just put it away I guess it was my OCD kicked in and I was just overwhelmed.

sindee, I've applied and was turned down twice already. The first try in 2006 they turned me down and I contacted an attorney who told me that me being fired from my job instead of quitting was holding me back so I let the case laspe. I tried again in 2007 and I got my first denial a few weeks ago. I did the appeal but I'm also getting an attorney this time incase they turn down my appeal.

Still not sure what to do not sure if I can afford to file for disability and that is sad to say. I'm not sure what you mean as to why you couldn't 'afford' to file for disability??? As far as I know, it is standard practice that when you go looking for an attorney t represent you in this process, they do NOT collect or require any money upfront, and they only get paid when you have WON your case. And when this happens, then they can only collect a certain % ~ like 1/4 of your total settlement...backpay and all!

Its worth a try to get disability or even early SSI..like I am on! Besides, in actuality, it is OUR own money right? Reminds me of that one song...What Have You Done For Me Lately!!!

I am sorry I guess I should have clarified what I meant by not being able to afford to apply was that I have been trying to work I mainly do self employment stuff like I have sold partylite candles and am now doing pampered chef I tell myself I can do it since I plan my own schedule BUT I schedule most parties a month in advance and as we all know there is no gaurantee how we will feel in the next few minutes much less a month down the road but I have managed to pull myself outta bed and get to my parties (usually late LOL) but I suffer afterwards, I am just trying to contribute to my family in some way so I don't feel so D@#N useless and from what I have heard and read it takes like 3 years to get approved and just don't know if we can afford for me not to at least try and work regardless of the pain and suffering with gas prices and everything else going up just not sure my family well be able to continue to survive on one income while I wait to get approved.

Ok, I gotcha now...I understand now what you were trying to say! First off, Please "never" feel you have to "apologize" for what you say on here ok? We love ya no matter what!

I think I have a suggestion for ya. #1 is..with your 'Pamper Chef' job...put all the paperwork in your "Husbands Name" !!! And explain to them, you definitely do ALL the work, & it just has to be under his name! He can even "Go with you" to 'some' of these parties, so you'd have nothing to feel guilty about. Then it is HIM that pays the taxes on the income! Its NOT deceiving the IRS..at least I don't feel we would be! What about the option of alot of times "Hosting these parties at YOUR house? Would maybe relieve some of the stress of traveling, and lord knows it would help with the gas bill! My DH and I have discussed doing it this way many times...but then it just pans out I can't do the work! But think about doing it that way.

I know it takes "years" to get SSI or SSDI, but it IS worth it. It took me 4 yrs, sorry to say. But if you start the process NOW, and do the job thing as I suggested, then that time will not have passed you by. Personally I went through that "Oh My God" stage of suddenly finding myself sick & disabled. One day I had a $60K job, and then 'poof', all that $$ was gone! Thankfully back then, my DH was able to support our family. It was rough, no lying about that, but we did it. And now when my monthly check comes in from SSI, I DO feel I am contributing to the family finances. Hope this can maybe help you a bit? xoxoxox 's to you today....OUR day!

One reason not to stop trying is sometimes it works very differently. I

filled out all my own paperwork. I let them see and hear from me how evrything was going for me. Didn't care if I missed spelled words or came off as sane when I filled in their questionaires. They wanted to know. So, I told them. They turned me down and I appealed. I had just talked to the local attorney specialist on disability. When I recieved a letter saying that they were not going to fight me any more. That I would receive ALL back payments owed me from the time I quit my first job and got fired from my second.

I remember calling my hubby who was working as much overtime as his job would offer him so we could get by without my $$$'s. I MADE HIS DAY! He came home at 5:00pm that day. On the 3rd off the next month, I began receiving a portion of what the government had held from my checks for 35 years.

So my message is don't give up. Fill in that paperwork a little at a time until you finish. You will qualify. You are the type it was suppose to help. They can't ignore you especially if you have a doctor who will help you by writting even a page, 1 paragraph, on your condition. Have the doctor list everything. Like I filled in a form that listed fibro., major depression, high blood pressure, etc.

I went on ALLSUP website to check things out. They had a whole list of conditions and exactly what Social Security considers to be disabled. I got out all my papers that they need for when they call me. I know I'm in for a fight but I feel I can handle it. If not, I'll just email my friends here to help me thru it.

Hate to be sick but love the friendships I've made here.

Happy Fibromyalgia Day to all
