Hi, This is really my introduction. I've been reading some of the posts on fibro. A friend suggested I may have lymes so I've been reading posts there too.

I have had fibro I believe for about 22 years. I think I had fibro before doctors knew what it was. I was first diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome.

My new symptoms are pain in the joints. I have always had muscle pain but not the joint pain. My feet feel swollen on the bottoms and it hurts to walk some days.

I've had numbness and tingling in my fingers and toes. These symptoms are new for me too.

There have been a few times where it has actually been hard to walk. It feels as if my body is walking to the left when I'm actually walking straight. It also seems that my balance is so far off that I feel clumbsy and almost fall.

Has anyone been diagnosed with fibro only to find out they had some other illness or disease?

I am here to learn and hopefully to help others. Anne

Welcome Anne

We are happy you are here. Usually joint pain is something other than...like arthritis...and dont look down your nose at arthritis, it can cause you a world of horrible pain.

Do you see a Rheumatologist?

as far as falling; well yes many many of us are victims of the Falling Trolls...and a lot of injuries have come from it....

Numbness and tingling, well that is a different kettle of fish, you need to talk to your doctor about this if it is a new symptom. A lot of people here have these two annoying things but.....

Difficulty walking well yes fibro for sure, but also arthritis if your joints are not behaving properly. And yes joints do misbehave at times, even without arthritis or fibro.

Most people here have several diagnosis, so it gets dicey knowing what is what.

I do encourage you to talk to your doc about the new symptoms.

Welcome to our FibroWarrior Family Anne, I hope you become a regular member and enjoy yourself here.

gentle hugs and a peck on the cheek,
Natty

I am an RN with a current license since 1984....sheesh that's a long time....but that doesn't mean I am a DOCTOR
I dispense advice freely but you should take it with a grain of salt and do your homework and check with your doctor.
He gets paid more so he must know more. Right?

I am truly sorry your are reading my post, because it means you are here at MD Junction instead of out skydiving or deep sea treasure hunting or climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.......

Hi Anne! Welcome to our group! This is a very nice place to be if you are looking for good company with caring people who can relate to what you go through with this FMS challenge. I'm looking forward to getting to know you. The numbness and tingling in the fingers and toes I have also, but for me I think it's circulation and other problems. FMS doesn't make that easier and I agree with Natalia, symptoms do get all mixed up. I have joint problems also, but have severe arthritis which is certainly agravated by the FMS. I think that if you have a good doc who is up on FMS, that doc will address the FMS and refer you to other specialists for testing to check the other symptoms just to be safe. For me, that eased my mind.......I had a great rheumatologist who specialized in FMS and if I need to, I can see him anytime. I'm fairly regulated right now so I just see my local clinic for meds and other symptoms. And I am always in counseling for the depression that usually accompanies the FMS as well. This is just what is working for me right now and I've had over 20 years of FMS to get familiar with what comes and goes....FOR ME. Everyone is different. My little sis has FMS and different things work for her. Now, if I had my way, I'd have a massage therapist visit every day, a nice gentle hot tub with nice bubbly jets right off my bedroom.....roll out of bed and into the tub....yeahhhhhhh.......and a nutritionist.........a housekeeper........shall I fantasize on? Oh I better not or that young man will bring me that tall frothy fruit drink with the umbrella in it!!!! That's my idea of how to treat this condition!!!!

Take good care of you, Anne! You deserve it!

Katie

Hello Anne,

I was diagnosed with fibromylgia several years ago but they have now said that I may have M.E. too. I hadn't realised that was possible, but there you go! I have a lot of pain in my joints, especially my knees. The pain in my elbows feels like I've hit my funny bone. My finger and thumb joints struggle too. I also get pain in my feet, especially between the bones. I've described my legs as sometimes feeling like they don't belong to me as they go 'ploppy' and kind of kick out to the sides or drag, especially the right one. At other times they give way at the hip.

I hope you find some answers on this website. One thing you will see is that we are all different and whilst we share some symptoms those of us diagnosed with fibro don't share them all. Silly

Hi Natalia, I don't see a Rheumatologist yet. My internal med doc wants me to have some xrays. I will wait to get the results from those then I will tell her I think I need to see a rheumatologist.

I talked to my internal med doc about the numbness and tingling. She said it was stress. I don't think that is it. I can wake from sleep and have numbness and tingling. I don't think I'm stressed the second I wake up. I asked my chiropractor about it. He said it could be from my back being out of alignment or it could be something else which he didn't specify. I asked my podiatrist and he said it was from fibro. I'm getting different answers. That is why I asked here.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I will be here often. It's nice to be in the company of people who understand that my symptoms are not all in my head. Smile

Hi Katie,

The massage sounds wonderful. A housekeeper? Oh my, that would be wonderful. You made me laugh with your fantasy only because I've envisioned that one too. Smile It's been awhile since I've had one of those but they usually are good for me.

Thanks for the welcome. Everyone I've talked to so far has been helpful and friendly. My brother has fibromyalgia and my daughter was recently diagnosed with it too.

I have many symptoms that can fit into different illnesses. I will read, read, read to find out as much as I can about other illnesses that have the some of the same symptoms as fibro.

I will be back but now I have to go see if the maid has turned down the bed......lol.

Hi bboo,

My joint pain started in knees. It seems worse in the hips but then it goes away for a few days like nothing ever happened. I'm sorry to hear about your joint pain. I know how much it can hurt. I'm not sure what M.E. is but I will look it up.

It's just nice to talk to people who have some of the same symptoms and understand what I'm talking about. I wish you well.

Hi, I too had numbness and tingling in fingers and toes. For me it was because of hypothyroidism. I take some medication for it now and the tingling/numbness went away.
