Just curious how did you arrive to the decision to file for SS? Did your doc tell you, were you calling into work to much and getting fired, did you have to quit your job or were you ever able to work? Did you run out of other options? How did you bring up the talk with your doc? Was it worth it? Don't you only get what you put in? What are you going to do when it runs out? Thanks and sorry for so many questions.

I went through the process last fall/winter and was denied. I decided to not appeal it yet though. I'm weired, my thought is that right now I don't financially need it *of course, it would be nice to have an income that's not based on my husband's* but I decided to let it go for now.

I don't have a horror story or anything about my application and such. I thought the forms were fairly easy to complete, but like I said, I never filed an appeal and it sounds like that's where it gets messy and stressful.

Good luck!!!! Laughing Laughing

Went to the Allsop site today and filled out the on line request. I called the 800 number and answered their questions and they told me they would accept my case. I'm supposed to get paperwork in the mail that I fill out and send back to them. They are supposed to handle my filing and everything with social security. They told me that they recieve 25% of my back benifits as payment once my claim is approved. It all sounds good so far. Wish me luck. Peace. TrishM

Good luck Trish. Hey Cori I saw some of the questions you had and I hope you don't mind if I try to answer some. You have to earn so many ss credits to be able to collect. SS shouldbeable to tell you if you do. Deciding to collect was a very hard decision for me. I was mentally and physically struggling so bad. My pain doc sat me down one dayand asked why I wanted to work so badly. I said that I was to young not too (I am 36) and I loved what I did for work, just not my boss. Anyways my doc said that I was rare to him because alot of hispatients come in asking to get out of work when they don't need to. And then someone like me comes along who shouldn't be working and I was fighting to saty working. After talking with me for about 1/2 hour I agreed and started the process. I was extremely fortunate and got approved. I have to re-cert for it in 3 years. I'll see what happens then. I hope this helps,

Jenn

I just want to let you all know that I am just like you, a regular person. I am not a doctor or a therapist, but I do promise to be there and listen as often as I can.
Hugs and Peace,
Jenn

I decided to file after hearing the question so many times..."are you on disability?" and once I got over the not-wanting-to-live-off-the-system idea. Once I understood that I had actually paid for it when I was working, I decided to try.

My first attempt was a couple of years ago, when I tried to do it myself. Not realizing my fibro-fog had gotten as bad as it had, I nearly went into a panic over the frustration of not comprehending the forms clearly, and I gave up.

This time, I had a motivating factor. I have no income of my own, and haven't for several years. I don't want to be dependent on IH's salary, when I don't even want to be with IH. That hardly seems right. So, that was my decision to try again. Good thing, too, since apparently, my time to file had nearly run out.

Oh gawd....I'll never be able to explain it correctly, but it has something to do with the length of time that has passed since you last worked.
