I have been working as a medical transcriptionist for about 11 years now, and for the past 4 I have been working from my home for a company out of Atlanta. I think it is really doing a number on me. We work by producction, but with my hands getting stiffer and stiffer my quality of typing is decreasing. I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and working on my MBA. I was offered a job with an insurance company to do the accounting part-time.

So, I am thinking of doing that part-time and still transcribing part time.

However, if this is what I choose to do I will lose my health insurance and I am not sure what to do about it. Is anyone in this situation and what did you do?

I would never suggest someone willingly gives up their health care! Think long and hard about it! Wish you luck with your job decision.

I do have to do a lot of thinking. Our health plan is really not that great anyway. They raised everything this year. Not only my specialist (and I see 3) visit copay went up to $50, but so did my brand name drugs, $50. Luckily, I can get most of them in generic.

I too went part time 1 yr and 7 months ago and I lost my health care coverage. I have health insurance thru my husband job, BUT the most important part is that I should have taken my time in making the decision of going p/t because at my age I can't seem to find a full time job now. At this rate with the problem with the economy, I doubt it that I will ever have a full time job.

Good luck and take your time in this important decision.Smile

Health care is not what it used to be. We have our coverage thru my husband's employer and we're happy to have it. However, every year at benefits time we learn that he has to pay more and more out of pocket. Technically, we can't get too sick because we have a $3,000 deductible. . . .so you either have to be really healthy or really sick!!

Honey only you can know, even if intuitively if you will need your insurance or not. You should also look into the possibility of coverage through state or local groups and/or if you wont need the actual medical converge but maybe need the prescription options you should analyze this as well.

6 months after moving to another state thereby giving up my coverage needed an emergency hysto, total, everything out, fibroids, cysts and everything they were connected to. I thought they charged by the weight of the garbage they took out of me.....

Working part time makes sense if you can swing it. BUT you said something that confused me, which really doesn't take much, really, but you said you were thinking of 2 part time jobs?

Now you say working one full time job is killing you, you have fibro and you are thinking of giving up insurance and 1 job for 2 part times? How does this make your life easier?

so you make mistakes in your typing that's what spell check is all about, Your brain is just fine, honey,

Whatever you decide to do, be sure it benefits you all the way around. And honey, don't take on more than you can do, cuz you still want to finish that MBA, right? It's a tough thing you are working through, and we are all rooting for you, no matter what you decide.

Good luck honey, whatever you decide!!!

I dispense advice freely but you should take it with a grain of salt and do your homework and check with your doctor.
