Thanks Stacey. Nitalynn, that is a lot what I was going through. This Spring I was going to therapy for the shoulder and while there doing the...the..ok, what are the things called..is just called exercises?? For the shoulder right? Anyway when I had to bend over sorta and let the arm hang and make little circular motions, it was killing my back and neck so bad, I was breaking out in a cold sweat and so after 3 times trying, I just stopped going. Then I had a summer long flare and wasn't off the couch much for anything after that. I am just now going back to the doctor about it. Back in July is when I had the MRI done and it was the first time that I had a excruciating muscle cramp, but I made it through the whole test without flinching. That was horrible. I really do appreciate all the input.

Hi turtlegirl,

I have had 2 surgeries (1 major and 1 oral) since being officially dx d with Fibro.

The surgery was bladder ablation in 2006. I was in the hospital for 4 days; bed, couch and recliner bound for 3 weeks ~~~ Off work another 3 weeks and did just fine.

For some surgeries, rather than give the patient a needle or pain pills every 4-6 hours, they hook a pain killer into your IV line and you can dispense the drug as needed for pain. They couldn t believe that I only squeezed the pump ONCE (it is monitored electronically) during that entire time.

My OB/GYN sent me home with a 'script for pain ; hubby filled it, just in case but I never took one. Ended up throwing them away a few months later ~~~

So I would say you pretty much have nothing to worry about as far as going into a flare etc.

Let us know when your surgery is and keep us posted, okay ? Rotator cuff surgery is much less invasive and faster recovery than having shoulder completely replaced.

Thanks, I will keep ya'll posted, I'm sure I will be grouchy and left alone on the couch with the laptop lol. But throwing away perfectly good pain meds!?! Everyone else's surgery are, were, so much more serious so I'm optimistic that everything will go fine. Both of my shoulders are torn, but for obvious reasons they will only do one at a time. Just seems like this is been the worse year ever but I'm trying to take it all in stride and just be thankful that it can be fixed. Thanks

I have to agree with everyone : ) We are all individual and react diffrently to different things. I didn't have any severe pain after surgeries, but it did seems like it took me a little longer to recover. Also, when you feel pretty good, you may try to do things earlier than advised and could put you in a flare for doing things to quickly because pain levels are low.

Don't worry about going under. I used to have a huge fear about that and after my first surgery, I wish I could use in for pain management LOL The first time I had anesthesia, it took me awhile to come out of it, but other than that and it was no big deal and I never worry about it at all.

I wish you the best and feel that you will do just fine. If you have any difficulty, just post and maybe we can offer some suggestions. I need to have the same surgery you are having and a couple other procedures, but I can't have surgery unless it's a matter of life and death until after December 16th. I had a heart catherization and stents put in last December and for some reason I can't remember you cannot have surgery for a year after heart surgery.

Good luck sweetie, I'll be praying for you. What is the date of the surgery?

Hugs~

Christine

Oh thank you so much. Sorry to hear about the heart stints, I have heard from people, like my mother-in-law, that they feel so much better afterwards. I hope that is also true for you. I imagine that that was pretty scary to go through.

I don't know the date yet, waiting from the doctors office to call and let me know. I am very nervous about being put under. I know that I need to be a big girl and just suck it up. After reading about so many having so many surgeries, for some sick reason it makes me feel better that it isn't as serious as so many others.

Thanks for the prayers, always need them and will be praying for you also.

I had surgery in June and just had to take some extra pain meds for a week, then I was pretty much back to normal. I was afraid the surgery was going to send me into a major flair, but it didn't.
