Last night I got to pondering over fibromyalgia. If it does nothing physically damaging to your body why do the symptoms worsen over time? I know that I feel I have progressed into worse pain now then anything I could have imagined in the beginning. Is it the meds reeking havoc to our bodies or is it physically damaging or is it in my head? If anyone has any insight on this or feels a different way please post. As I am really stumped over this.Dizzy

Hey, Cori,

I agree with you. I am certinly geting worse as the month and years go by.

A lot of people that have 'fog', and the dr's are still going round and round gong "duh"

And of course all of the changes made in your meds.

It is a lot of trying new meds, more tests, and the cost of all of that.

Try to have as pain free of a day as possible - and take care...,,

I just feel a determination to need an answer. I am not satisfied with their I don't know there's no proof that it does damage, it's not real pain. I just can't settle. I really think there are different stages or different types of fibromyalgia and most of the stuff I find on the internet I tell my doc we test and find out no it's not that. Thyroid, diet, this or that is low blah blah. That's it lets start a pool, I'm going to medical school! I've had it. Stinkin docs with their maybe theories. Sad I wish I could just let it go and accept it, but they haven't made me a believer that it's just an imbalance in my mind. Not real pain, not real damage. there's something more to it. hmmmm......

Your doctors tell you the pain isn't real? Mine does not tell me that. He says I have chronic pain, caused by Fibro. He's not all about the whole 'fibro fog'. But does understand the pain.

He tells me that until there's a real miracle drug. I'm going to have to learn to tolerate and cope with Fibro. There's no real way to diagnose or determine the severity/levels of Fibro. At the moment, it's more of an individual thing. Everyone's bodies are different.

He says, "We can treat the symptoms, but not there's not cure at the moment." I think/feel he's right.

Have you thought about seeing a different doctor? Cause I'm not sure I agree with 'no real pain or damage'.

We all have our thoughts and opinions to this darn Fibro. I guess our doctors do too. Huh?!

I agree fibroforever. It is an inividual thing, each person's pains and symtoms are different and that is why it is so hard to find a way to treat people. My doctor says the pain is very real and we have to treat each symptom as they occur.

I did ask about the fibro fog and he does believe it but we have other things to work on first. I asked my doctor that question and he told me I was not done "getting" FM. I don't think anyone knows the answer to that question yet. I wish they did and I can see you do too. There is research going on and I am going to a specialist next year (the first appointment open) he also does research, maybe then I will get some real answers.

Cori, I think pain is what affects our bodies. When something hurts so much and our bodies can't ignore it, we start to adapt to it as much as we can. Eventually we begin walking a certain way to ease that pain. Then it leads to more pain, which leads to more adapting, and it keeps going on. That's why I think we keep getting worse. I think the fibro fog comes from our meds. It's impossible to be full witted on the drugs we take (my opinion). My rheumy even mentioned yesterday that he wants to take me off my seizure med because I've been taking it for so long (since the 1970's). Unfortunately, I don't think there is a light at the end of the tunnel for us. We all do what makes us more comfortable and sometimes that just isn't enough. I hope I am making sense because I've been having these thoughts for some time now. I don't know how to change the cycle though.

sistrozzie,

you said it perfect i think when I hurt my back I adapted and used my left side more which in turn caused problems on that side I sit funny because of that on and on,but also stress is a major problem it effects people in alot of ways they dont say stress kills for nothing your body is always in a state of stress when you have chronic pain thats why they want us to do relaxation exercises,

we all have alot to give if one gets the help then some of this suffering is worth it..

remeber I am not a doctor I just say what I think

I forgot all about the stress. My body reacts differently to it. When I'm under stress I behave just fine. When the stress is gone, everything goes haywire on me. My last 3 years at work were horrendous, sort of what Cornbread is going through. My last week of work, I was supposed to work until Friday, but on my 65th birthday, I told my boss I couldn't come back anymore and he said okay. He wasn't the problem though.

Cori,

I've been thinking alot about that too. I don't take any meds for fibro because my pain is minimal however I do take numerous pills for my heart, diabetes, Meniere's, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

Anyhow, When I was taking Lipitor, I was in so much pain that I couldn't bear it. I eventually switched to Crestor and the pain went from a 10 down to a 3. Not all of the pain went away immediately but it has subsided over the years after being taken off Lipitor. So in my opinion and this is just my body, I can say that sometimes taking medicine actually exacerbates the symptoms we are having. Pain is a symptom of something gone wrong. Dr's can't find out what is going wrong so they gave us a catagory of Fibro. I was never one for taking pills before my heart attack. I was always taught to shake off the pain. Now, I take a pill to counteract the harm that another one is doing to my kidneys. If I could just stop all of the meds I'm on and find something natural to take, I'd do it. Unfortunately, I'm at the CRS age with the fog on top of it. I'm not making sense am I? I guess I'll just stop for now.

I have read in a couple of books/pamphlets on the subject of fibro that the condition does not cause any physical damage to your body. I just don't know. I have also read that fibro is not "progressive" and I know for certain that is not true because I feel much worse than I did last year when I was diagnosed. It's scary to think that we're just gonna get worse over time......not a pleasant thought. Sad
