MDJunction to me

fluffyluggage"I found MDJunction at a time when I was struggling with so much. I
was so sick. I found a home, a place where people understood me, when
even my family doubted me. In MDJ, I found a place of refuge, love,
and support. I come here daily, to find my balance, to cope, and to
find that same support I've found from day 1. MDJ is my new family.
The friends I've made here will remain with me for a lifetime.

Has anyone tried a reduced refined sugar diet to see if it will help with fibro pain? I absolutely overdosed on sugar a couple nights ago and woke in the night throwing up and then had severe pain (much worse than "normal") for about 24 hours afterwards. Has anyone tried a diet very slow in refined sugar to see if it would help?

And has anyone tried eliminating nightshades (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, etc.) from your diet to see if that helps with fibro pain?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the OD on sugar.Sick I eat very little refined sugar in my diet, not specifically for fibro but because I get groggy if I eat too much. Never thought about it maybe effecting my fibro, maybe thats why it makes me groggy.

My hubby is diabetic and we just don't keep the "yuck" on hand. I won't use artificial sweeteners, those things are worse for you than refined sugar, we use raw sugar crystals. As for the nightshades I don't worry about those too much cuz I need the potatoes for protein and the tomatoes for their antioxidants.

Other than refined sugar, I use honey or stevia. I've used raw sugar crystals also. I've heard that brown sugar isn't as bad for you as refined white sugar but I don't really know about that. I ODed by going on an ice cream binge. Really not a very bright thing to do but I can't go back in time and change it now.

I wondered about the nightshades 'cause I saw something on television about that. Made me curious.

I'd like to know whether anyone else has any experience with either of these.

Thanks!

i recently cut out mostly all junk food and now soda, and I only use refined sugar in my coffee but have cut back on how much. I have noticed that my fibro pain has gotten alot better..even with all the rain we have been having.

I havent tried cutting out nightshade because they are a big part of my diet since I don't eat a whole lot of meat anymore.

Carbs in general don't suit me. I notice the difference if I have too many, and tomatoes are relatively high carb.

Since I have a strong history of diabetes in my family, I cut out sugar from my diet about 5 yrs ago. Besides losing some unwanted weight, I can definitely say that it did help my fibro. I am on a low carb diet, and I don't eat sugar. When I "carb out" or eat a piece of birthday cake or something, I can feel it the next day. I've read that low carb diets are good for fibro sufferers.

As much as I love my ice cream and soda, I recently stopped using as much sugar anythings. I had a recent kidney infection so I cut out all soda (thats the hardest for me im addicted to caffeen), all chocolate, no sugar additives to anything (other than what I cook with which is brown sugar since its "better" for you) and anything else I could think of that had a lot of sugar in it. It helped me sooooooooo much. I still can't believe how much better I feel with most of the junk gone! Granted I still have my daily dose of soda, no more than 24oz a day tops, but now it all tastes too sweet and I feel a little sickened by it now. My body feels off and I get light headed and nauseated with higher quantities of sugar these days. I can't even eat more than 5oz of ice cream without that sickly feeling.

As for the carbs, no way I can do that one. My flexeril causes me to have massive carb cravings and apparantly that is a very common side effect which of course can cause weight gain. Oh well you win some you lose some right? Try the sugar deal Im all for it, I hurt a lot still, but those aches arent all day anymore for me!
