Today I am so unbelievably sore and it just confirms that stress and lack of rest are a major cause of fibro flare ups. I already knew this but I have done so well to keep myself rested and relaxed to avoid these flare ups but yesterday was just ridiculous... my mother has been ill and between waiting for the phone to ring and dealing with our two dogs and picking her up from the hospital and everything last night I literally did not get a chance to sit down until 9:30pm. I worked all day from 8:00 - 4:00 then was running around like a chicken with my head cut off until 9:30 and was able to go to bed at 11:00 or so only to get up earlier than normal at 6:00. I am now at work and my legs have been aching since I got up and not getting better. When I have stress I get knots in my upper back and get extreme pain in my back and the headaches come back... my next massage is not for another 5 days so I will probably be sore right up until then. Any suggestions for the pain in my legs are welcome... ultimately I'm just venting and this is the best place for me to do it! Thanks for listening!

Hello, sideline...

If I have not already done so, WELCOME to our group !

I know exactly what you mean about stress and lack of rest causing major problems for those of us with Fibro.

I am trying very hard to learn to pace myself on days that I feel are more stressful than othrs. Sometimes I can do it and others, it s not so easy to do.

I think sometimes stress/tension builds up for many days without us realizing it until a flare hits us.

I don t have a lot of leg pain anymore since starting Lyrica back in May but I can definitely sympathize with you on the back muscle knots (mine are always lower back). They are terrible to relax and get rid of !!!!

You mentioned getting a massage ...could you tell me more about how you think massage helps your Fibro ? How long have you been getting them ? How often ?

Just wondering if massage is something that might help me from time to time ....

Hope you re having a better day today .... {{{HUGS}}} Marilyn

Hi Auntie, I go for a massage every 2 weeks for 30 minutes. I have been doing this for about 2 years now and WOW it has been the best thing for me. I used to have the headaches every single day that just would not go away and since I began going for massage I have not had the headaches at all... sometimes if I have to go 3 weeks between massages I will get the headaches about 3 days before I am scheduled for massage and it wont go away until I get my appointment. It helps relieve the tension in my back and releives stress and by far the best relief I have found for my fibro. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Auntie, I agree with the stress and lack of rest building up and then causing a flare up. As far as the massages, if I could afford it, I'd go probably 2X a week. I can't afford it at all so I suffer, but when I can it is the most helpful thing in the world for reducing the spasms and the pain. Anyone who can afford it should go for it!

I would go if they would take Medicare but they don't. What a bummer!

I also want to WELCOME Sideline! I am sorry to say I found my experiences w massage caused me more pain than I was in before. I don't know if it was just to deep or what. I had 2 cervical fussions and ahve a severly degenerated spine. I do know how you are suffering with trying to do it all, I know there are those things you absolutely have to do, but I bet ypu are like me and have too high of expectations of yourself. I was told ones that you gotta take care of yourself 1st then the rest comes afterward. My best advise is not to push yourself until you break- that's what I did several times before I had no choice but to put my health 1st. Take care! Ann
