I found out the other day that all my mates went out for the night together & me & the OH didnt even get invited.

Everyone was supposed to be going camping & we had to turn it down due to lack of money, but instead of camping everyone went out for dinner & drinks.

When i first found out i felt very hurt that we weren't invited but soon realised that we had said we didnt have the money for camping so wouldnt have had the money for dinner & drinks. We could have met up with them all for a couple of drinks but we never knew anything about it. I can understand why we werent invited but the bloody fibro has given me so many different moods lately that i took this to heart. Now ive got to speak to my friend & explain why i felt so hurt, explain the fibro & some other things but am worried she'll think im just making excuses!

Anytime something like this happens i worry that the other person will think im using the fibro as an excuse but im not. Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me? Does anyone have any advice on how to explain this to my friend? The fibro fog is making it too difficult to work out what to say

Emma,

The best way to tell your friend is just straight out. Some of us refer our family and friends to come and read some of the forums so that they can see that we are not making excuses and also so that they can try to get an idea about what we are going through. If you do not know if she would come to this site then try to have some info on Fibro that if she would like to learn what you go through then she can read them. Do not pressure them just let them know and then back off and they will come around if they really care about you.

I hope that everything works out. Have strength and believe that your friends can see the truth.

I know how you feel with others thinking you're using the Fibro as an excuse. I "know" others feel that of me. But, they don't really understand Fibro anyway. So, I try to remind myself of that.

I don't have any advice. But would lean towards agreeing with AngelBooze- just tell her straight out. But, in a kind tone of voice. She will either accept it or not. Unfortunately, this darn thing has cost many of us friends.

Thank you both for your help. I spoke to her earlier today & explained everything. Luckily shes a very close friend so does know quite a bit about what we all go through. The idea of suggesting she come take a look at this site is a good one....for quite a few people i know!!

Thank you both again

Emma,

I m to the point with this Fibro exhaustion that I try my best to commit to functions I agree to attend. However, if I don t physically feel like doing something (especially last minute)when someone calls, I just tell them ""I am sorry,I am not up to it today...maybe another time"" and leave it at that .

IMO, you don't need to explain yourself. Just state the facts. You didn't have enough money to spend the whole night. You have been particularly ill lately and it would have been nice, however, to have been invited. You don't have to feel ashamed for your illness! You never have to feel ashamed of being ill! It is not your doing and there is currently no cure, so no need to apologize or make excuses for something that's not your fault.

If she is a true friend, she wont NEED you to explain your life away to understand. It may be harder to accept that if she doesn't react well to what you have to say that maybe she wasn't the friend you thought she was. This just happened to me AGAIN!!

Us folk are always losing friends because PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND OUR ILLNESS, NOT, NOT NOT because of our illness!!!

Do your best. That's all you can expect of yourself. You have every right to feel hurt that you weren't invited, and every right to tell your friend how you feel. Just remember, you're illness doesn't put you at fault. Not even a little bit!!!

Hang tough!

Gentle hugs,

Wolfpack

Thanks again guys,

I saw on one of the posts on here a webpage link which explains a bit more about our illness so i sent it out to some family & friends. Now they know a bit more of what we all go through. It was definatly one of my better ideas! I encourage everyone to send it out to people they know, it certainly helps

Oh p.s - if you want the link just PM me as ive saved the webpage to my computer.
