I am sure that I am not the only one to question my fibro diagnosis. I just seem to feel worse and worse by the week. I am having new symptoms like numbness in my arm, and left leg, tingling in my arm, fingers and foot all on the left side. I almost fell over today while at work (not the first time this has happened) and the exhaustion--I know you can relate. I am a teacher and fell asleep with students in my room today. The sleep problems were better for about 6 weeks, now I am back to not sleeping again. Is it fibro, is it something else? Any insight is appreciated.

My friend has Fibro (diagnosed a few years ago) and has all of the symptoms you described. I can't count the number of times I have found her on the floor or at the bottom of the stairs (with my dogs eagerly licking her face) because she loses all sensation in her arms, legs, or both. And it is never predictable and happens at the worst times (as if there is a good time). We have found that the numbness and loss of sensation gets a lot worse with stress, exhaustion and when she notices serious bloat (treated with Floragen 3) or thrush. But that is just for her.

She can also fall asleep anywhere. She was diagnosed with Narcolepsy many years ago and takes Provigil to stay awake (which I have heard has been prescribed for CFS and FMS to deal with the extreme tiredness). Since the FMS we have had to add caffeine to her pill regimin twice a day. It also seems to help her be more aware of the numbness and things -- probably because it makes your nerves a little hyper, but it does not seem to increase her pain.

Anyhow, I am not sure if that helps at all.

Take care!

After reading about your friend the first paragraph sounds more like MS. Are they checking for that?

Yes they have. Actually that was my initial thought with her symptoms as well. But after a thorough neurological exam, they still came back with FMS. I am not sure how confident I am with ANY doctors anymore. I feel like most times I know more than they do after all of this research. I actually had to correct a doctor on a medication that could have killed her. I am not trying to sound cocky or anything, it is just so frustrating. So many MDs act like they know everything about everything and all they seem to do is talk in circles and write prescriptions. We are thinking of taking her to another neurologist in the near future, but she is terrified about what they might find (and rightfully so -- so am I). In a way I think it would be better to know, in another way I am not so sure.

I am always questioning my fibro diagnosis. It seems like new things happen and the fact that pain moves to other areas makes me think it is something else. I know that is symptoms of fibro, but every time something new happens, I freak out and think I am dying! For two months I had pain and stiffness in my neck and shoulders. Now that pain is gone and now the pain is so bad in my lower back and hips. It is just strange how pain can move from one place to another. Also, other strange symptoms occur: tingling, facial pain, headaches, etc.

I also have been getting really scared with new symptoms popping up! The same as all of your describe. I have been having numbness, tingling, loss of balance, headache's, extreme exhaustion etc. You know what I think it may also be all of the meds we are on. I mean wouldn't you think that would have some affect on things? I am in the same boat is there more wrong with me then I know?

Take a look at the symptoms on this website. I'm very confused! A recent blood test showed I have EBV, and EBV supposedly causes CFS (chronic fatigue). I have an appointment with my primary on Friday to discuss the test results and I'm going to speak with my rheumatologist about EBV at my next appointment - I think it's on Sept. 18th.

I looked at the website for EBV and the list of symptoms. I am sorry but I am just not understanding what it is or what it does. I get it's a virus and can cause CFS and at this time there is no cure. But what exactly does it do to you? I mean like Fibro has all of these symptoms but it doesn't actually destroy your body. Does this other virus? I thought I read it could be deadly? tsage please advise more on this topic as I don't quite understand it.

I'm in the process of researching EBV symptoms, treatments, etc. - I just received my test results yesterday. However, I know it is a herpes virus that most people become infected with at some point in their lives, it is not life threatening, and unfortunately does not have a cure - same as fibro. A small percentage of people get "Chronic" EBV which can lead to CFS. The symptoms between Fibro, CFS and CEBV are very similar. This will drive me crazy!

I've attached another link...

It is important to note that symptoms related to infectious mononucleosis caused by EBV infection seldom last for more than 4 months. When such an illness lasts more than 6 months, it is frequently called chronic EBV infection. However, valid laboratory evidence for continued active EBV infection is seldom found in these patients. The illness should be investigated further to determine if it meets the criteria for chronic fatigue syndrome, or CFS. This process includes ruling out other causes of chronic illness or fatigue.

Let me clarify something...

I believe that fibro is real and I suffer from the condition, as I have the tender points associated with fibro. My confusion surrounds whether or not there could be a link between EBV, CFS and fibro. The symptoms overlap.

I probably shouldn't worry myself with such things. If doctors can't figure it out, I certainly won't!
