MDJunction to me

jenniferdiva"MDJunction has been just an amazing support for me. The people who are on mdj are so nice! Unlike the many other support sites that I have been on. I have made several friends on mdj who are so supportive and so educated about mental illness. Of course non of us are doctors, but we certainly offer each other hugs, opinions, and advice. I have learned a great deal from my friends on mdjunction. I am also encouraging other people who suffer from mental illness to come on to MDJ. It can be a life line." (jenniferdiva)

Going without medicine. As you know I'm being shipped off to Charlotte to go see a doctor and I think the first thing he's going to do is yank me off my meds. I'm not a fan of being chemically dependent, but my opinion is they dont know what its like. Any of your thoughts? My parents want me off meds too. I'd like to be off of them as well, but I know the alternative.

Wow, Brandi, that is a toughie, for sure ~~~~

I, too, hate being dependent upon drugs of any kind and I hate taking pills but in order to feel better, sometimes we have to go with the lesser of the two evils and swallow those pills daily.

I can surely understand you/your parents wanting to off the meds but will you be able to function once they are completely out of your system and you re getting no help for the pain ?

It will be a very rough decision on your part , for sure ~~~

I wish you the best and please let us know how you are doing and what occurs with your new drs. Smile

Brandi in the end it is what you think will work for you. I am scared as heck about all the side effects and having dosages upped all the time. I can not do alot of meds mostly because of being a single mother of a special needs kid. I have NO help with her. I also have ulcers and other issues that have given me adverse reactions to meds. I have never believed that all these chemicals can be good for the body and docs shove so many at you. I hate the pain I live with daily. I hate the fatigue and all the other demons but to be so dependant on a pill and put my daughter at risk I can not do it. I take a tylenol 3 elixer and though it doesnt help all the issues it takes the edge off but can still be there for my child who will soon be 5. I hope you can find the answers you need my approach might not work for you but it is another opinion that may help you in some way. Please let us know how you are doing and what the doctors say. Love and hugs Barb

I'm going to try to call the doctor's office personally today, because I'm willing to give it a try seeing it's a reputable practice...I just don't like this detox idea without knowing the alternative.

And I did get back up meds to last me at least until the appt 6/7

Meds:
Geodon 160mgs daily
Tegratol 600mgs daily
Klonopin 1-2mgs prn
Synthroid .100mcg daily
Protonix 20mg daily
Hydrocodone 5/350mg prn

Brandi, I think you're really the only one that can answer that question. You have to live with the decision either way and I know it's tough. I can understand where your parents are coming from but as much as they love you, they are not suffering the way you are. I never used to take any medication for anything....was against it totally as I was always very healthy. I dread every morning when I take my meds and more so my pain meds however it's what gives me some quality of life. I wouldn't be able to move without the med and so that's a decision I have made. I know it's a little tougher on you cause you're so young. You are a strong, brave young lady and in the end you will do what's best for you. Please keep us posted and know that you're in my heart, thoughts and prayers!

Wow! You need to make that decision yourself Brandi with no pressure from your parents, they don't feel what you feel. If the meds aren't helping then that's one thing but there may be something else you know all about trial and error. I am not going to sway you one way or the other but no meds is a huge move. What is your backup plan? How are you planning on managing your pain? You just mean your Fibro meds correct? You are not stopping your Bipolar meds are you? I wish you the best of luck sweetie, if you need to talk you know I am here. Hugs, Stacey

No Stacey I would never go off my BP meds!!! Been there, done that, not good results. Just the pain meds for fibro.

And good news! I called the doctor and the office seemed like they were willing to work with me. I think my parents got the wrong office and I won't have to detox off of anything Smile
