Hey everyone,

I just had a upper endoscope done and I found out that they did a biopsy. I didn't think anything of it, but someone made a comment that they only do a biopsy when they believe that they see something. Is this true? Just wondering...I'll know the results in a week. Just wanted input from those of you who have had biopsies done before...

Thanks

Celest

I've joined the PAH support group because of my diagnosis of Borderline/Mild Pulmonary Hypertention. I also have multiple diagnosis such as Systemic Lupus (which is in remission-Praise God!), hiatal hernia, fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism (my thyroid has been removed),prinzmetal angina, tricuspid regurgitation, pulmonic regurgitation, and dilated cardiomyopathy (with a pacemaker/defibulator). With multiple health issues, I tire pretty easily, but people are very patient and understanding, and I praise God for this and all things.

This is a tough position, Celest ....

Drs. do do biopsies when they definitely suspect something out of the ordinary but I also think they perform them when they aren t sure . Therefore, better safe than sorry, so they take the biopsy to be sure .

Sorry if that was confusing ... I know what I meant to say but not sure if it comes across clear to you.

Hoping and praying for good results for you...

The doctors have to do a biopsy of everything they remove. They did a biopsy of my uterine polyp even though he said it looked OK. They did a biopsy of my ovarian dermoid cyst, they did a biopsy of one of my keratoses that he took off last year and they did a biopsy of the polyps they took out of my brothers colon last year too. It's just a precaution to make certain that there's no cause for a malpractice lawsiut against them if for some reason something turns up down the road.
May your troubles be less, Your blessings be more. And nothing but happiness come through your door!

If a dr. scopes something, you can bet he'll take a snip. It's common practice.

Thanks all,

That's a bit more encouraging. I went online and it said something similiar to what you're saying. I've had many upper and lower GI's, but not with biopsy. Not that I remember anyway/ They normal give me the results same day. So bare with me, this is new. Thanks again!

Yeah, I agree. It's just to cover you and them. I've had two lumpectomies so they could biopsy even though all the tests showed that they were fibroadenomas (benign growths). My one surgeon said that the only way to know 100% is for it to come out. I know how hard it is to wait for the results since I was in that position more than once. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Most of the time I think it turns out to be nothing, but that's probably not something your head can wrap itself around right now. And on the bright side, if something did turn up, then they have found it and can treat it properly. Best wishes, Jeerie

My lymph nodes swelled just before I got my diagnosis, and to make sure it wasn't anything malicious they did a biopsy..they thought I had lukemia due to me being tired all the time and in pain. I think they do em to cover their hineys! LOL

THIS is not all in my head, and NO I am not crazy!
the bra seems to be my mortal enemy, a weird 19th century torture device most obviously designed by a man!
