Hi everyone. I've been out for a while and have been in contact with our other two awesome leaders, Bruce and Suzie, and apparently there is another application being used for chat. On hearing that I had stopped paying for Ventrilo since also to be quite honest, I never thought Ventrilo was the ideal vehical to meet our needs as a group.

So I would like to throw out there the question, which chat vehical do you prefer to use? Based on your answers and the final decision of the leadership, we'll post which vehical will be our official chat application.

Please post by Friday, November 23rd.

Thank you all. It's great to see how wonderfully we continue to grow as a family and I hope this helps us become a stronger family.

My RA groups uses Para Chat. It has both free and paid versions. The free one isn't horrible. The paid ones have a lot of bells and whistles. I'm not sure if we have the Advanced or Professional version. Sad, I'm a chat admin and don't know that for sure. I use the chat 5 days a week at least and I like it. (I host a daily RA chat for the group.)

Here are the options for Basic Chat which is free:

Free ParaChat Rooms

Hosted On High-Speed Dell™ Servers

No-Cost, Real-Time Interaction

Embeds Into Your Own Web Site

Color & Language Customizations

Large Room Capacity

Elaborate End-User Controls

Avatars, Emoticons & Sounds

I don't know enough about chat groups to offer an educated opinion. I just wish we had one. I think it would be great addition to are message boards. It would just feel more like one on one conversations. I don't have friends that come to see me,and I have found I think of everyone here as my friends and would love a chance to do a regular chat back and forth. I think the simpler the better.

The only opinion I can give is please consider those of us who are not very computer literate. If it is too complicated I know I would have a hard time.

I agree with kychick and Snoopy...the easier it is, the better it is.

I have a terrible time learning new things with this fibrofog always here.

Absolutely Snoopy. It's really the reason why I phased out Ventrilo. I have a lot of gamer friends that use it religiously, but they love gadgets and gizmos that are exlusive. I thought something simple, easy to use, fun to use, and affordable to free would be the best thing for our group.

Bruce, I think you mentioned one that you were using, but I can't remember which one that was. I'll try to rummage through my messages to see if I can find it, but if you can would you mind posting it here?

Thanks.

I personally haven't used any 'chat' servers/hosts/whatevers...lol...but my hubby is a computer geek/gamer and he loves Ventrilo. However, I asked him what WE should use and he talked a lot of ventrilo and said I.R.C. is good but it's confusing, a lot of spam and some viruses plus it would be too much for our needs. Also, I think Bruce mentioned Trillian as well as my husband said that one too but it's only 'talk'...no voice...or so since he last checked it out. He looked around a bit and said that igoogle would be okay for us! W00t

Anyhow, he suggested that since we (or I should say some of our members) just set up yahoo and called it good. I do think it worked well for most of them...I never heard any complaints. I think if we can have voice as well, we'll all be happy! Smile

Whoa...am IIIIIIIIIIIIII ever confused!!!

So, there are many options out there...and if you need any help with anything, let me know I'll put my husband in the corner (or on here) and hammer him for more info!!

SOO GLAD YOU'RE BACK!!!

Thanks to all who replied. The leadership will get together and discuss this and let you know what we've come up with.

If you have any questions, please feel free to message me, BShapiro, or Sweetheartsuzie.
