MDJunction to me

aTinaL"To me, Mdjunction comes down to motivation. The support and information I have found here motivated me to take a very proactive stance regarding my illness. This led me to find medication and doctors that are giving me my life back.
More important than even the motivation, though, is the friendship I have found at MDJ. I have made some of the best friends of my entire life right here in this group. Even though most of us have never met, it feels as if we have known each other for years.
If Angels walk among us, and I believe that they do, most of them are here at MDJ.

It is SO important for us fibromites to take a few minutes each day to let Mother Nature touch us, to receive the benefits of getting back to the natural world even if only for 15 minutes: listen to the doves coo as they prepare to nest, hang a hummingbird feeder where you can see it from a window, do a small vegetable garden if you have space, or plant sweet basil in a flower pot and watch it proliferate. It is wonderful to pick fresh basil for your Italian dishes. An herb garden can be started in pots on a windowsill. Learn how to compost (it can be done in a tiny space) and feed your plants with it. Or just sit in your yard alone or with someone you love simply to be quiet and watch and listen to the birds. Be outdoors with a purring cat on your lap or a dog chasing shadows through your yard. We desperately need to keep things in perspective when we feel like death warmed over, and quiet time in touch with Nature can soothe like nothing else. Please give yourself this gift. You won't be sorry.

You are so right Farout.....I do this often as I can and you are 100%, it's a wonderful free, natural treat! I have a little alter in my back yard for gift's..(part of my religion) where I leave nut's & treats for critter's...lol..which is funny because that has been my nic name (Critter) online for years, but here it was taken?

I love the feeling of the sunshine hitting my face, and it gives you back so much needed vitamin D. I call it "grounding" and I feel strongly about needing to keep grounded. My garden , I have herbs and I want to start tomatoes this year and some container things. I have a nice deck and I figured I dont have to bend down for containersSmile

I've had really bad results with tomatoes, but I think it's because of the climate and soil here. It fills the soul to weed, fertilize, and reap....your idea of the altar is fantastic! There is a jasmine vine in my yard which is blooming non-stop, and if perfumes the whole patio. Nature's gifts are free, and all Mother Nature asks of us is to care. Good luck with your deck! You might try cinnamon basil as well as the usual kind, it has gorgeous tiny purple flowers and is a very spicy herb.

Great post, farout, and you are absolutely right in that we need to take 15 minutes for ourselves everyday. Whether it be to sit and meditate, pray, read a book, enjoy the birds singing (I loooove the very early morning when the birds are waking up), talk across the fence to a neighbor. Whatever it is, make sure it is especially for YOU and JUST DO IT !!!

You mentioned hummingbirds and hubby and I are probably the biggest fans of those precious little wonders in our county. We have 7 feeders and, this time of the year, our favorite thing is to have morning coffee (outside) and evening relaxation with the hummers. Smile

Far Out farout Wink seriously very nice! I love sitting out back and watching the beautiful birds that come into our yard. We get such pretty ones. Blue Jays, Cardinals and I have no idea what the other ones are lol my husband told me what those two were and I swear they are the same ones every time they go to the same tree. I dont have a garden I am not good with that stuff but when I am well enough I love planting flowers all around. I used to years ago every year. Luckily I planted some that come up every year so I can watch them grow every spring. Smile When I am real bad I just buy lots of hanging plants and put them everywhere and my husband will plant some where I want them. Enjoy Nature ladies. Wink

I'm not an outdoorsy person at all. My apartment opens onto a courtyard that is green this time of year but in a few weeks will be brown and yucky. The back yard is even worse if that's possible...it's tiny and has trees that drip icky stuff on you year round (that I track into the house). And there are bees--I'm allergic to bees. Walks aren't so bad, I do enjoy them around my neighborhood or when I drive to my library I like to wander that neighborhood, it has some of the coolest houses in my city and I daydream about winning the lottery and being able to buy one someday Laughing

When I worked I kept nature near me by using as many natural things as possible around my desk. I bought small wooden bowls for paperclips & other necessities, and had one with small stones, some of which I bought but a few I found (I had two from the Grand Canyon). I also had a big piece of amythist for energy and obsidian to "ground" me. I cannot keep most plants alive but even I managed to keep a stalk of "lucky bamboo" alive for 5 years. Then I had a beautiful greeting card I bought on the Rez of our sacred mountains and would sometimes take a break and stare at it until I could almost feel myself in the mountains. I also had another one of my idea of the perfect room....a rocking chair, a bookcase and french doors opened out to a sandy beach.....

Oh I also had this really cool rock that was two different kinds of stone swirled together. I found it on the beach and I called it my big bang rock. People would always notice it, pick it up and say "nice rock!" I think I worked with a bunch of weirdos Laughing I fit in well.

Not long after I brought Mortimer home, I noticed that my bowl of rocks was empty! Then I starting finding little bumps around the edges of the area rug. He stole all my rocks!! I'm still missing one of my pieces of the Grand Canyon LOL....

Hey, Raynedae, you mention the Rez. Did you visit, or are you a member of the Navajo Nation???? If you are, I have a really interesting tale to tell about how some Apache elders sent me a Talking Stick and a medicine bag that I have hanging over my bed. I don't have any contact with the Navajo Nation, since the native healer who put me in touch with the elders was Cherokee, but she speaks Navajo and other native American languages. I think your ways of keeping in touch with nature are great--the rocks, the bowls, etc. I haven't seen the sacred mountains except for Ship Rock from an airplane, but oh, how I would love to go to the Four Corners area!

Forgot to mention that in the morning and early evening where I live, mountain parrots fly by in large groups, settling in trees and squawking something fierce, but they are charmers! At one point I planted plantains in the back yard (big mistake, they are worse than weeds), and I had to hang aluminum foil strips in them to keep the parrots from eating the leaves and the bananas. We also have some kind of very odd bird, perhaps they are prairie chickens, that also make a racket to beat the band, wandering through my yard and sitting on low branches, pooping all over everything! Ha! Nature runs rampant here, but I love the birds that come to drink the water I have for them, and year after year the hummers nest in my yard. Once they nested right outside my kitchen window and I watched the tiny, tiny eggs open to reveal the oh so very tiny babies! Moments to treasure...

I would love to have a large deck, so I could have a container garden, and to sit and relax, have a hummingbird feeder, etc. I love to be outside.
