I'm sure I'm not the only one here who deals with this. My medications make me extremely constipated. It is very bad. We will just leave it at that.

Are there any prescription medications a doctor can give for constipation?

I cannot afford the Miralax over the counter. I know there is also Senekot S, but that is also too expensive for me. I know $20-30 a month may not seem that expensive, but it is when you are barely making ends meet as is.

If anyone knows if there are any prescription anti-constipation meds, I'd appreciate it. I take Colase, but that only acts as a stool softener.

All I have to do is eat an apple or some watermelon or grapes. My dietician once told me to sprinkle a little bit of bran onto whatever you are eating. She said bran is wonderful. If you are constipated it will aid you there, if you have diarrhea, it will help with that also.

My mother was the worst constipated person in the world. There were times when she'd go for weeks without a BM. The Dr told her just to get some OTC, Citrucel, Phillips Milk of Magnesia or any one of them. What you are lacking is fiber in your system.

i dont know a quick solution to your problem but I would cut back on cheeses as they can be constipating and I would definately up your fresh fruit and Bran intake there are some really tasty high fiber cereals our there and some are even availablein the lower cost food stores like Aldis and Save a lot or what ever is inyour area. Also I get the barely making ends meet as I am on SSDI and SSI whjen I am getting SSI right now I am only on SSDI at 275 a month because I was forced to sell my home before they foreclosed on it...but eventhough right now I have too much money in the bank to get SSI I stillhave to make every penny stretch infact I am to the point where i barely get any meat ulessits in a one dollar tv dinner...its just way too expensive for me but I ove it now that itis summer great farmeers markets out there where the produce is cheap... I have gotten zuchinni and eggplant I lvoe the italian kind, and melons and tomatoes and cukes at a fraction of te store prices also Fresh corn on the cob does the trick with me LOTS of fiber in corn...

Ok sorry I rambled but you can add me if you have myspace and we can chat or Message me here my mysppace is myspace.com/marian_danowski_pheasant I am also marian17044 on Yahoo

hope things get moving soon for you

If you like the Miralax, but it is to expensive, can't your Dr write a prescription so it will be covered by insurance or whatever you are on? My son is on Miralax we get a prescription from his doc and we get a generic form of it and it goes through our insurance. Hope things improve for you very soon, I know exactly what you are going through, I have been there myself.

I have had irritable bowel for at least 20 years and have had lots of problems not being able to go. I'm sure being on meds made it even worse. It didn't matter what I ate or didn't eat- how much water I drank etc.

I was reccommended to use a product called "Nature's Secret- SuperCleanse". It is actually a cleanse but my doctor said for my condition I could use it long term. It has been a God-sent. I've been on it close to 3 months and maybe 2-3 days I didn't go in all that time. In fact for the first time I go MORE than once a day certain days. Vitapal.com I think sells it the cheapest. It is under 12 dollars but that should be enough for at least 2 months. You can take up to 6 a day. Once you go a few times a day you back off. Currently I only take 2 and am doing fine. The bottle comes with 200.

I feel a great deal better. If you want more information feel free to PM me.

My doctor said that I can take Benefiber and Miralax. If that does not work she will give me a script for something.

I have the same problem, "Recovered". The only thing that works for me is Phillips Milk of Magnesium. I hate the taste of the liquid form, but it comes in a pill form. Ot also comes in a chewable tablet, which tastes very minty & also helps w/acid reflux. (I carry these around in my pocket)If you do try the pill form, drink a whole glass of water with it. Hope something we say here helps...

I didn't know you could take Phillips for constipation. I was looking at it in the store, and it was a reasonable price -- one I could afford. I will try that!

Thanks, everyone
