Has anyone had any experience with mold in their home making them sick? I believe I have found out what has caused this horrible flare up I have been in for the last year. I've had fibro for 10 years but for the last year have been getting sicker and sicker. It started with bad migraines, and when I didn't have a migraine I had a constant headache, bloody noses, severe sinus problems and then my fibro flare and I haven't been able to figure it out and neither could my doctors. Well...I came home a couple of weeks ago a saw what I thought to be a water stain (small) and thought we might have a leak...called the mgmt company...long story short...we found mold throughout the entire kitchen...gross! Not just a little, it's throughout the walls of the entire kitchen! I moved out of the house immediately and within two days started feeling better. I have been out now for two weeks and have not had one bloody nose, no headache, am sleeping better, my fibro is still flaring but I am starting to feel better...I am 10000% convinced that the mold was the culprit and that it was making me sick for the past year (the plumber said it's been there at least that long), it's just too much of a coincidence. If anyone has any experience with this disgusting stuff please talk to me. I am having such a hard time getting the mgmt company to understand how unhealthy it is and how much damage this is doing to the house, they still haven't even fixed the leak - it's a foundation leak under the kitchen sink so they are going to have to jack hammer it all up. What a nightmare! Any similar stories out there??? I don't want to ever go back to that house, I feel like it's evil and it was attacking me but I am "bound" to their stupid lease Angry so anyone who's had any experience at all with this stuff...I'd love to hear from you. Thanks for listening to me vent. Dizzy

It is an awful feeling when you find mold in your home. We moved into our apartment about 3 months ago, and I smelled a musty odor from day one. I assumed it was just a left over smell from the previous tenant. Well, I finally noticed a brown spot on the wall near our front door. It turns out the maintenance workers simply painted over the moldy drywall, and it surrounded our entire foyer. Luckily our managment company addressed the problem immediately and it was fixed within 2 days. Mold can cause a lot of health issues. My husband's co-worker ended up in the hospital due to complications caused by mold in his home. I suggest you find a good lawyer if they don't take it seriously.

Hey...just saw your post. I have been sick and undiagnosed for three years and I think I may have just found out that my health problem is from mold. I found mold under the boxsprings of my waterbed and remembered back to a leak I had several years ago. I also remember a black film being on the inside of my cabinets and on my plastic wear in my old house. I'm getting my home tested Monday and I'm waiting on blood and urine test results to see if mold is my issue. I'm hoping it is just to have a diagnosis and because I think it can be cured. I've been referred to an ENT in Atlanta that specializes in mold toxicity. He says I must clean my environment and my body to get well. I agree with the other post...you need to get a lawyer if they don't fix the mold. Get out of there and be careful about taking anything fabric with you such as couch, chairs, drapes, towels, linens, clothes. These items may need to be discarded (not donated) or washed in a detergent for mold. Everything else in the house should be cleaned or you could take the mold with you to the next place.

Good luck...Darla

Wow, do you ever have a legal reason to break a lease! Do the mgt people live in a cage or something? Don't they know about toxic mold? Run something off the internet and hand it to them to read. You might even be entitled to medical damages for heaven's sake!

I think that because of our old house is what started my recent flare, and since we lived there for almost two years, and the entire basement is full of black mold not just on the drywall but the studs in the wall and the carpeting, we also had a mold problem in our bathroom! Needless to say while we lived there I felt like I had been run over daily, we moved out and I started to feel much better, not 100% but better anyway. I think more landlords should take the toxic mold more seriously, because there are thousands of us suffering due to it!

Good luck and I am pretty dang sure that this would be a very good reason to break the lease, and sue for medical damages! People who are uneducated on this specific subject matter ought to be taught the hard way..and that is either through the court system and the pocketbooks..lol or just have to be made to suffer because of it in general like we have!

According to my doc, if you have mold toxicity you will never be 100% until you clean up your environment (where the mold is) AND your body. He has me doing nasal rinses, nasal steroid, nasal antibiotic, and many supplements like GSE, Thymate, Citri drops, VSL flora, and Intamax. If I don't get 100% from this I may have to undergo sinus surgery to get rid of any polyps/fungus balls in my sinus cavity. Anyway...just wanted to let you know that it's not just the environment that has to get "well"! My doc is mold toxicity expert if anyone needs a knowledgeable doc...he's in Atlatna. Good luck!

I had Lyme disease and suddenly started getting sick from mold. It's not an allergy, unless you just get respiratory sxs. They can test your genotype; some people cannot produce antibodies to mold and it makes you very sick. It changes your brain chemistry, not to mention exhaustion and feeling awful. I have damage to my immune system, but mold is not good for anybody. The black mold, which is what usually grows from wet drywall, etc, is quite toxic. See Dr. Shoemaker's work on mold/sick buildings for more info.

There are blood tests and Dr. Shoemaker's VCS test that will tell you how high the biotoxins are in your body.

It's hard to tell with the Lyme, but I've been with the mold for over 2 yrs so there might well be lasting effects. Apparently it creates scar tissue inside blood vessels, among other things. Trying to find an apt to rent right now!
