I have gone to the chiropractor too, but the adjustments are even too painful for me. He gave me therapy only with the ultrasound machine and heat and that seems to help some. He said my back feels knotted up around my neck and shoulders. Most of my pain is centered there but I also have some knee and foot pain.

How many tender points does one have to have to get a definitive diagnosis of fibro? One article said 11 and one said 6. I have more than 6, but not sure about 11...but then no one has ever formally tested me.

There are 18 tender-points and if a person has 11 of them- they are considered to definitely have Fibro. I'm attaching a pretty good website explaining it. It also shows the tender-points on a body and explains what they are. http://fibro-myalgia.com/63/tenderpoints/

You should find yourself a really good general or physician. And a rheumatologist could best diagnose you with Fibro. Or tell you what's going on with your body.

I had more than my share of ""points"" to qualify as having Fibro. I knew about a couple of them but the majority were found by my Rheumy and whew, my hips nearly flew me off the examining table. OUCH !!!

Hi Amy thanks for the link. I have a great GP who has been taking care of my Hashimotos thyroid issues. I have seen him every 6 weeks for the last 9 months and he has followed this muscle issue.

But, today I am seeing a rheumatologist to try and see if this is truly fibro or just related to my thyroid problems or something else?

Hello. Interesting to here what works for one may not work for another. This fibro is really an individualized thing I'm finding out. Amy, thanks for the link it was awesome. I have all 18 points that set me flying off the exam table! I have a rheumatologist and when he touch the tender points on me I wanted to kill him! Same with my General Phyiscian. Since my recent OD all my doctors and phycologist are working very closely with each other to figure out what will be the best way for me to manage the pain and emotional end of all this. I hate the fact it took me to my limit (OD) to make them wake up and decide to really work together on this. But I am gratful they seem openminded enough to try. I also have learned that a chiropractor and a massage therepist have to have special training in handling fibro. patients or they will actually do more harm than good. So please check their credentials before they touch you! Good luck and God Bless you all.

Same thing with me, Auntie... hips flew me off the table. I was tested twice, by two different docs... first I had 18 of 18, second I had 17 of 18.

I see a chiropractor, mainly for my neck and shoulders. I love going.

Kristin, tell me what the chiropractor is doing that is helping> Adjustments or therapy or both? I am considering going back to the chiro too.

I went to a chiropractor before. On the second appt it hurt really bad and I got a migrane and I ended up having to go to the hospital. I dont think I will ever go to another chiropractor again.

Adjusting. Definitely helps my neck. Also helps my lower back a bit too. I have to go once a week to really feel a difference, though. Depending on how stressful the week and how much pain I'm in, sometimes more often. But definitely worth it.

Hey dragonfly. Yes, that can happen. Sorry the chiro made you so much worse. My chiro isn't going to do any adjustments when I go. It will just be ultrasound therapy. I had some adjustments when this first started and they made me much worse too. I was in agony. So, I know to be careful now.
