The fact tha chronic pain and fibromyalgia are so difficult to handle on their own, would make it hard to distinguish between depression and suicidal thoughts brought on or increased by the medication or those already present. My suggestion would be to closely monitor your mental health as well as you physical health. Listen to those close to you when they tell you they notice a difference in your personality or your actions. If you start to feel an increase in you depression or feel like you would harm yourself, tell someone that can help you. Don't hold it in. There are people who want to help you.

Your friend who understands,

Sandi

another thing with the Cymbalta---if u have bipolar it can bring out the mania. When the dr started me on Cymbalta he told me to watch for manic episodes and he eventually had to start me on Zyrexa.

The doctor took me off of Lyrica because I gained 40 pounds in 3 months and was showing symptoms of congestive heart failure. I was weaned off of it slowly replacing it with Cymbalta. The second day I was totally off of Lyrica, I woke up with a terrible feeling of impending doom, so bad that I almost didn't send my son to school that day. I called my doctor begging him to put me back on Lyrica because I felt worse than I did when I was diagnosed. Thank God my doctor didn't put me back on it and told me to give it a few days. In time the feelings subsided, but I know that it had my husband and my parents that live with us worried sick. If my Dad and mom weren't there that day I dont know what would have happened. I am doing better with the cymbalta and losing the weight now to the point that most days I am pretty functional. After that episode, it doesn't surprise me that there is a class action lawsuit, but I wish the advertising tactics weren't so extreme. We have enough trouble making people believe that we are in out right minds without the ads making our friends and family worry about our emotional well-being.

All that I am reading above re:Lyrica is beginning to scare me now. I am starting my 3rd month of it and I don t like what I m reading about being taken off or stopping the medication.

I have not had any suicidal innuendos or major side effects other than drowziness from taking Lyrica. I think it has relieved a lot of my Fibro pain but it has also caused me to gain some weight (few pounds).

Guess I m going to have a lot to think about between now and seeing my Neuro on July 14th ...

Auntie, if it's working for you without any side effects then I wouldn't stop taking it. There are lots of pills out there that are miracle pills that work for other people but for some reason just don't work on me. Even some generics don't work on me like the brand name does. Everyone is different. It may work wonders on some and on others have ill effects. Be thankful that the pills work for you and give you some relief.

Jan

May your troubles be less,
Your blessing be more,
And nothing but happiness come through your door!

Auntie,

It sounds like Lyrica is working for you so don't be to quick to stop.

The weight gain is not what we want but the pain is worse don't you think? I'm getting a lot of relief with Neurontin and yes I've gained way too much weight. But when I read the side effects of all my meds, they all say that you will gain weight.

So you just have to adjust to it I guess. My body has a mind of it's own and I'm not going to worry to much about it.

It's true that every drug has potentially dangerous and sometimes even life-threatening side effects, and also that not everyone will receive therapeutic benefits from any drug that the FDA has approved... I stumbled across this article about how the FDA runs the tests on new drugs before they are marketed, or are approved for a specific off-label use, like Lyrica and Cymbalta were approved for use in fibro....and found it chilling. I can't say that I am surprised...but doctors and patients cannot trust the FDA to protect their safety when taking a drug. You have to be careful, and keep your doctor informed of every side effect when you start a new medication, esp. if it is one which has only recently been approved.

Keywords: Lyrica Suicide Side Effects Lawyer Lawsuit Neurontin

Lyrica & Neurontin Association

Lyrica (Generic: Pregabalin) is prescribed to patients for the management of neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Lyrica, manufactured by Pfizer, received FDA approval on December 30, 2004. Seizure patients also use Lyrica. Lyrica was manufactured as a substitute medication for Neurontin. Lyrica has only been tested and prescribed to adults 18 or older. Lyrica has not been studied in children under the age of 18. Lyrica, just like Neurontin, may cause increased risk of suicide and suicidal behavior.

Other Lyrica Side Effects

General side effects associated with Lyrica can include: dizziness, blurred vision, sleepiness, weight gain, swelling (edema), muscle problems, and altered perception. Weight gain is of particular concern to those with diabetes, as this can worsen their condition. Additional animal studies also found Lyrica to cause side effects in males. Lyrica lowered the fertility of some male animal subjects throughout testing. Males who received Lyrica who did reproduce had an increased risk of birth defects in their offspring.
