The SSA has finally set my hearing for Disability, July 9th. I'm really nervous about this and could use any advice you can give me.

Congrats on getting your hearing date! I'm still waiting and hope to hear soon.

Do you have an attorney?

There is a really good site for this type of thing disabilitysecrets.com

I would do everything you've read about on the support groups that I'm sure you have researched.

Don't wear makeup or jewelry. Remember this is a court of law and dress and act appropriately.

Have someone else drive you if you can.

It will be a long day so take water and meds.

Be honest.

Good luck to you. More and more FM sufferers are winning at this level. Please come back after the hearing and tell us everything in detail.

SW

Congrat on your court date being set. When I went in for my court case it was 15minutes long. I knew 8 day later that I was on disability. My lawyer all he told me is not to get to upset. They want you to just be yourself. We will all be with you that day.

If you need to change postions or move around do it.if you need to get up do it. only answer the question dont add anything. yes or no. make it short. if you dont have a lawyer get one, even if its one advertised on TV. Its worth giving them some of your back pay. because if you dont win neither do they. I filed in Jan 2007 and got mine June 2007, it took me 6 months and I didnt have to see a judge. Good Luck and please let us know how it goes..... Cinnamon

That is good advice from Cinnamon. I forgot to put that in my post.

If you have put in your paperwork that you can't sit for any length of time, you need to just stand up when you need to.

Those are all great tips. Check out the new SSD Tips and Advice Forum. Go to the menu at the left, to Other Support Groups, go to S and look for Social Security Disability Advice Forum. I would love to see you all there, so we can support one another.

And jsrace, GOOD LUCK!!

Did anyone know that there is only one place that hears appeals for the whole country. I think it is in Falls Church, Virginia. No wonder it takes so long to get our cases through.

(If my information is incorrect--I am sorry)

The system needs to be changed.
