Then it must be the clean air. I also live in ohio part-time and the air quality in Cincinnati is horrible.

I live in a rural farming community in NW Ohio and I've told my husband that this area isn't good for me. I moved here at the end of 1999 from Virginia. I was doing good in Virginia except for Diabetes which was diet controlled and Hypertension for which I took medication. Ever since moving to this area my health has deteriorated rapidly.

thank you for the welcome. i do not know if any have spoke about the "tens units" to help reduce pain. i will be trying it next week, because my pcp does not want to up my oxy dose. Has anyone tried the tens units before?? about a month ago i tried zanaflex and at first it did a great job on certain pain. but now it's benefit is much, much less.

I've taken Xanaflex and I still do. I was up to about 8mg 3 times a day. I took it for the spasms and it helps me greatly. Mostly I need something to help with the tension in my muscles and the spasms so that my nerves to not get inflammed.

Oh a vacation to my parents house would be great. I always feel better in NorthEast Ohio. Maybe that's just my dad's cooking, LOL! Anywhere you can find comfort, I think we should go to that place and relax for a time.

a TENS unit, (like ice or heat) is good for spot pain. It only has 2-4 electrodes(1-2channel models).

so I'm not sure why your doc prescribe it unless, like me you sometimes have spot pain. Athough it's good for the above It isn't really interchangeable with meds for pain.

like you said, i will not be replacing any pain med, but will be using it for spot pain. the tens unit may help when things are bad and the meds just don't do enough-like at night..i am glad to hear that it does work for this spot pain.

how about lidocaine patches-it is probably the same idea?? or not? i'm thinking sometimes just alittle bit more relief would help. thanks for the info

TENS units really arnt safe for sleeping. the electrodes can get stuck to your sheets etc.

If you have pain that exced your meds you need to have a frank discussion with you dr. about the length & duration of your pain & firmly politly but demand 24 hour coverage.

Also, look at www.alpha-stim.com I use an Alpha Stim Unit, it's great! It's not a TENS unit. It is used at my PT's office! OOPS! Welcome to our site!

Lots to cover in this one. I've lived by the ocean in Mexico for seven years. At first it was great but over time it wore off. Living on the desert side of the Baja was better because there was no real storms or mositure changes.

Tens unit. Love it! It does drive me insane after awhile and I have to shut it off. I can set mine 12 different ways to the moon. I do recommend it as an alternative.

Lidocane patches are great too. Cold as hell when they first go on. Again it is a temp relief situation. Bruce is right. You need to work with your doctor to find a combo of meds and therapies that give you releif.

I also got myself an ultrasound unit and had a PT train me on how to properly use it. I do get relief but it is a pain in the behind to use, especially when I can't do it on my own back!

Keep trying and don't give up.

i prefer the atlantic on the east coast, the gulf of mexico, vero beach is about 2.5 hours away, and the gulf of mexico is about 1-2 hours, so we usually go there, and we have family there.

I don't know if it makes my symptoms better, but i figure if you are going to be hurting anyways, it might as well be at the beach! haah,

tens unit, love it.... use it all over.
