In July I have to go to a pain specialist to see if they can come up with better meds for me other than the dreaded narcotics. Has anyone had a positive experience going to a pain management specialist? I went to one three or four years ago and ended up with a really bad allergic reaction to the steroid injection that they gave me in my back!

This has me afraid that they will want to again just give me shots in all the areas where I hurt, and from previous experience with trigger point injections(they hurt me more than they helped) I couldn't sleep after having them for four nights and they didn't help like the doctor said they would!

I am quickly losing faith in the medical community as a whole!

Yikes! I haven't been to a pain clinic, and will probably avoid them if shots are involved.

Please don't lose faith though. Although hard to find, there are good doctors out there.

I know tsage, but after so many failed attempts to get the proper care for this friggin illness, it has made me so damn desperate! I hurt so badly that giving up really seems like a good thing to do, but I won't due to my family and I really DO not want to cause them pain and hurt!

Brett, I will let ya know how it went..I am sure it will be the same damn thing again.."if we give you these shots, you will feel so much better!" SCREW the shots, my neck and heat hurt so badly that if I even rested against a chair it felt like I had these burning knots in my shoulder and head..yes they gave me two of them at the base of my skull..those two hurt the worst, and caused the most horrific migraine ever! I dunno though, I am just fed up with the pain! But I will keep you all posted on how it goes!

My FMily is the best!

I have been thinking a lot the past few days.

I'm wondering if we aren't the beginning of understanding. We all have a lot of the same symptoms, but a few different ones thrown in. We are in varying stages of pain. We are finding that there is not one or two drugs that work for people with fibro, the relief is just as mysterious as the syndrome.

I think we are the start of a movement that will bring awareness not only to the "normals" but to the medical field as well. As we go about our lives and share our stories of fibro, we are educating as we go. We may not change that one person, but as we share, then the next one shares and so on, I think eventually they will be more acceptive(?) of our plight in life.

jls1021 you can not give up. I do not know what it is like to walk in your shoes, so I'm not going to said I understand. I am going to say WE NEED YOU. We need you to share not only with us but with everyone you come in contact with, to make them aware. You were put on this Earth and given this syndrome for a reason. I think we are all brought together here to learn from each other and to spread the word about fibromyalgia. I think we are the start of the movement that will make the world acknowledge fibro as a real syndrome, to work "with" us to find, maybe not a cure, but relief.

Sorry for the ramblings, if I don't fall, I'll get off the soapbox now.

Thank you Broken and mcbeth!

I am sure you are very right and it wasn't useless rambling, you made me realize that I am not alone, and that some of us are a bit different and some of us are the same, some of us have horrific pan and others they have pain they can tolerate. My mom once she heard my DX she did all the research she could to find out what was wrong with me and see if this is what I have had since birth..she really thinks so!

I am trying so hard to keep my mind on other things and if I didnt have this support group, I am very certain I would lose it. Every one of you here is a very caring and understanding person. If I had the strength and money, I would go to med school and make my focus be on this syndrome so that being a person with fibro I could help others who have been dismissed!

I hope the doctor that I see in July is a decent guy and listens to me rather than just trying a few things, I want someone to listen to me, I really do! I want someone to just LISTEN to me who is a medical professional!

Ok now I have gone on a tangent! LOL Thank you though mcbeth thank you so very much, you have given me a new perspective on why I am here, and what I have to do, and I will educate people, and maybe someday we will all be heard!

Gentle fibro hugs!

Jill

jill you said exsactly what Im sure we all feel we just want to be heard and understood by the docs who are supose to help us really anyone to listen would be good.I know our freinds familys get tierd of us and they try to understand but alot of times dont and enless they go through what we do I dont think they ever could being heard is what we want being listend to is what we need.the problem with docs is there is only so much they can do and so much knowledge that they have and for a syndrom like ours how do treat something that effects each one so diffrent and I agree we who suffer with this need to find away to have this really looked into and a real treatment plan made

Well said mcbeth! I can't tell you how many "normals" I've educated about fibro, and in turn they'll tell others. We are the beginning!
