I went to my doctor today and she changed two of my meds well actually four of them but my insurance will not pay for Cymbalta or Lyrica..how are people supposed to feel better when the insurance company denies us medicines that could possibly give us back the quality of life that we once had?

The two meds I got changed that my insurance company will pay for are Norco 10 and Soma. Why will they pay for two highly addictive medicines, but the two that could really provide me relief they won't allow me to have unless I pay for it out of pocket..this makes me so mad, I finally get insurance and now I can't have two meds that could make me feel better! UGH! I hate how stupid they are! Any one have any suggestions on how to maybe get these meds? Any suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks,

Jill

I am going to the doctors tomorrow and I talked to him today and he said the same thing. He wants to put me on Lyrica but he said I might have to go Neuronton (spelling)instead because he does not know if my insurance will cover Lyrica. I guess I will found out tomorrow.

Have you called you insurance company to find out why they won't pay for them. When I started on Lyrica my Rhumy gave me a coupon for 1 free week and then I had to send away to Aetna for 3 months. Then I find out I couldn't take it. Spent $80.00 to throw them away. Isn't Lyrica just approved from the FDA for this.

Barbara,

Yeah it is approved for this, I called them and was told that I couldn't get it due to the price of it and that I would have to contact phizer (sp) to try and get it through them at a reduced cost. The Cymbalta though I can't see why they wouldn't pay for it since it is after all a depression med..ugh! Stupid stupid stupid!

I can't remember the name of it right now, but have you ever seen the commerical with Montel Williams. He helps people get their medication. I will have to think about it or maybe someone else knows the commercial. This is going to bother me until I remember.

Thank you mcbeth and Barbara, I will have to call my doctor tomorrow and ask if she can get me a written prescription so that I can mail it off to be filled..still the extra steps I am having to take to get this medicine is very frustrating!

That's terrible! Not only was Lyrica approved by the FDA, but my psychiatrist told me Cymbalta was just approved last week.

I hope Partnership for Prescription Assistance is able to help you.

Yes, your insurance won't pay unless you get a pre-authorization or special approval from your doctor. I am going to have that problem with a medication that is going to be dropped by my insurance but I can have it authorized by my dr.
