Does anyone else get an extreme pain in the muscle below your shoulder blades or across the shoulders? Also headaches that are mainly in the back of your head, right where your neck joins? I have been getting them a lot more often lately.

What are some possible treatments that have helped everyone? Since I was just diagnosed, I am starting with PT on Monday and then taking it one day at a time.

Just in case I ever forget to say it...I am so lucky to have you all!Wink

My shoulders and back hurt a lot. I find good posture is the best preventative measure and lots of shoulder and back stretches help out with getting rid of the pain. I do this one where I stand up and reach both arms to the ceiling and stretch them up as much as I can. Then I lean forward and bring them down to a toe touch as best I can. Then I do the same kind of thing side to side. That may have made no sense but if afterward it feels good, keep doing it. If it hurts more, stop.

I have an injury to that part of my neck/skull that causes me lots of problems. I have to take muscle relaxers to keep that area from spasming. I've found a handful of things that help. One is icing that area while I've got my feet wrapped in a hot heating pad (or soaking in hot water). I also can self massage it with two tennis balls...put one into a sock, tie a knot, put the second one in the sock, tie it off. Then I lie on it and gently shake my head from side to side (no) and up and down (yes). I also have a huge crystal my sister sent me that I use in much the same way. I've also learned a multitude of exercises from dozens of phyiscal therapists but I'll let them teach you those. Make sure they're aware that you have fibro and don't be afraid to stop them if they hurt you!!

Good luck sweetie!

My friend the chiropractor says that all of us should take a jug of milk, stand with our feet shoulder width apart, bend over from the hips, then swing the jug in a circular motion. I used to be able to do it with a milk jug, now I do it with a two lb weight. My friend insists that if we do that we can avoid "frozen shoulder syndrome". You don't move your arm, you swing from the shoulder...

it's my left shoulder blade, about mid-blade, between the actual edge of the blade and the spine. That is called the Rhomboid muscle and mine goes into spasm all the time. It's the muscle that pulls your shoulder blade back into position after you've reached forward. Mine has hurt for years, and I've had shots in it and all. Nothing helps me much. =(

Miora sorry to hear for your pain I have same problems like you except all my muscle on right side beginning from trapezius is on spasm all the time like yours.I am just worry about side effect from many corticosteroids, everybody is hiding from doctors to pharmacists.I had right shoulder surgery last year and now I am waiting for right elbow surgery too, they told me I have tennis elbow and I don't believe I do,after surgeon give me one corticosteroid injection between two bones in elbow I start having problems and pain.I don;t work for almost 3 years and how can I get tennis elbow?

Just does not make sense!!!!!!!! So now about spasm what to do,they only suggest me Botox and I am very scared.I was schedule for June 25 to see neurologist who will give me but I am thinking to cancel.I don't feel well to risk my life, there is many risks.I have two children and I am not ready to die jet,I should cancel.

I wouldn't cancel, but I would have a LONG talk with your doctor about your concerns.

I've had a couple shots into that shoulder muscle in the past, but I don't want to do it anymore. Too many cortisone shots into a muscle can make the muscle start developing little hard spots, like granules I'm told, that makes the spasm worse and makes you need more cortisone. It's a vicious circle.

I have the same pain in my shoulder blades and my muscles are all knotted up around my neck and shoulders all the way up to the tip on my neck meeting the bottom of my head. I also have the feeling of a terrible bruise if someone were to touch it. I like the milk jug idea.. I am going to try this. The only problem I have is sometimes I can't make my arm do what I want it to. There is a spot in my shoulder that hurts..right under the top of my shoulder bone, I also get tingling in my fingers and half my hand goes numb as well. The best way I can describe this feeling is if you have watched the 'Horton hears a who'.

This is how I feel at times and I do wish it were as funny as the dentist part in the show but it's notSad
