Hi Ya'll! New to this site and still learning how this all works. I was wondering if there are others that suffer from Fibromyalgia, but have a difficult time with medication management due to being very sensitive.

I've been told by different doctors that it was due to having Fibromyalgia.

So, what are you suppose to do? Some days the pain is so unbareable, especially during weather changes.

HI...Hopeful.... I first would like to welcome you to the site....

I think you will find that there is a ton of very special people here that are going through a lot of the same things that you are..... and the information they can help you with is awesome.....

And as for me......oh yes.... I am very sensitive to almost all meds..... most of them just make me itch....like right now..... I took my pain med later than I should have an now I am up itching all over tonight....... oh boy.....

I am allergic to a ton of meds not.....mostly narcotic pain meds.... some even make me break out in hives. and others have just stopped my breathing all together.....

For the itching...... Zertec.D or alegra D seems to help the best..... sometimes if it is really bad I will go on about 40mg of predisone..... but that takes a while to work.....

anyway.... let us know how things are going... and WELCOME

Craig

I have problems taking all kinds of medications. That is why my depression is not getting better. Nothing seems to work because of the side effects.

I had an eye doctor once tell me that because I was fair skinned and had light blue eyes and huge pupils, that I would have more reactions to meds than the normal person does. I actually carry a list of meds that I am allergic too in my purse at all time along with my medical history and current meds I'm taking. I get anything from swelling, hives, itchies, intestinal problems, etc. The wierdest thing I ever got was when my Internist put me on Zestril. I was waiting for a reaction but never got one and I was just as happy as a little piggy rolling in you know what.

However, as the day wore on, one of my co-workers stopped by my desk and her eyes bugged out. I had huge purple spots all over me. I called my Dr, told him they didn't itch or anything but he did say that it sounded like a reaction to the Zestril I was on. I can't go out into the sun anymore because one or more of the many meds that I'm on has a reaction to the sun. I break out in bumps of various sizes and when the bumps go away I have what looks like warts where they've been. It's just on my arms and legs. That's the wierd part. Last year was the first in a long time that it came on so bad. We counted over 300 bumps of varying sizes all over my arm. Only one of them itched too.

May your troubles be less,
Your blessing be more,
And nothing but happiness come through your door!

Yes, and I don't just mean an upset stomach or something.

I had a seizure after taking a common anti-inflammatory drug called Voltarin.

The only other thing I was ever allergic to was an antibiotic with sulfa and that was many moons ago.

I also have develped a severe allergy to nickel since having FM. I can't wear any jewelry at all or I get a rash and hives.

I have to be really careful now with anything I take, including supplements. Not to long ago I was reading the label on my multivitamin and saw that they had nickel in them. Why would they put nickel in a multivitamin?

Nickel is a trace mineral. It is found in small amounts in the human body and is believed to play a part in our overall health and bodily processes.

I can't take sulfa drugs because I break out in hives and my throat starts swelling. If I have to take a lot of my pain med (Percocet) in one day, I usually itch. I take Benadryl for the itching. Oh yes, Benadryl can make you drowsy, so someone might want to try that to help sleep. I usually have to take 2 pills (25mg each) for it to make me sleepy.

Gentle Hugs,
Carla

I have the same problem. Now I know that I need to start new medications on a ridiculously low dose and then work up very slowly. Some medications I cannot take at all and I can usually tell on the first dose. Just keep trying and don't give up.

I had the same problem -- I have just started Zoloft with no side effects (and I had tried several others before) -- don't know if it is working yet.

Yes, that is a point I made in another discussion. There are lots of drugs that have opposite effects on different people. What may make some people drowsy makes another hyper. I know that it does happen a lot in children. So much of finding the right drug/supplement for you is just trial and error.
Gentle Hugs,
Carla
