A very interesting question. Because my symptoms, most of which was SOB, cropped up pretty quickly right after I quit smoking. Like within three months! I had had very minor and sporadic symptoms prior to that, looking back. But my huge episode, what finally drove me to the doctor, was after I had quit smoking.

Even at the time, way before anyone said the word fibro, I often wondered if it was because I no longer had my number one stress reducer.

Now you can see why I think it's an interesting question. Personally, for me, I think smoking HELPS my fibro! LOL! I did even go back to it, thinking it might help. To be quite honest, though, I couldn't see a difference, so I put them down again.

I quit smoking 2 years after my fibro began. I don't think we hurt anymore when we crave cigarettes, I just think any anxiety increases our pain in general. So if you're feeling anxious for a cigarette...

I am seriously thinking of quitting after the first of the year. I attempted it earlier this year and make it a week and thought the world was coming to an end. I want to try one of those electronic cigarettes just to see if it help.

LOL! Sure, Sybille! It's a medical abbreviation, "shortness of breath." I know what it is, yet it always takes me aback a bit! LOL!

When I quit, it took me a solid year. I stopped smoking and went to the commit lozenges. And those are really, really yummy, so I got addicted to those. Then I went to the gum after a few months. Then after a few more months on the gum, I went to the patch. Then I went down the steps of the patch.

Then I had one of those fibro spells where you sleep for days? So when I woke up, I almost put the patch on, but thought, why? I haven't had one in three or four days. Then I was done. It was expensive and time consuming, but it worked.

The strange thing is, I don't know why I stopped. I always swore I would never stop, because I loved smoking. And I smoked about four packs a day.

I STILL get the urge, and sometimes I don't really understand the rhyme or reason of why. In fact, I've been fight that craving this week really bad.

I use to work with a lady that smoked so much i couldn't stand to be at the nurses' station at the same time with her. I saw her and her husband at a Wal-mart after I had to retire and they had bothe quit smoking. But she said she was now addicted to Nicorette gum. I remember when Nicorette gum first came out a placebo gum was developed to get people off of it. I quit smoking 11 years ago but I don't think I hurt worse when I did smoke.
