Has anyone had to have a breast reduction to help relieve neck and back pain? I go for my consultation this Friday. I dred the thought of another surgery. I have heard the recovery for a healthy person is very painful let alone for people like us. I know for me,since the Fibro, It takes me twice as long to recover from other illnesses and surgery, than other people I asked my doctor what he thought about doing this and he was all for it and said I probably should have done it years ago. I lost over 50lbs(no miracle diet just sick from meds and pain)but nothing came off the top,if you know what I mean. If you or someone you know well has had this done, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks,

Sherry

Sorry to say that i'm a b cup and haven't had to consider breast reduction but my aunt (non fibro) did when she was about 40. it did relieve some of her pain but she thinks she paid for it, just this year at the age of 60 she had cancer show up in her breasts. she had to go thru chemo for 6 weeks to get it to stop growing. she was a lucky one and the cancer did progress. she seems to think that the scar tissue caused the lump to form. considering we with fibro have enough pain as it is i don't know if i would have reduction sugery if i was faced with it. since you brought up breasts i would like to know if anyone has increased pain just by wearing a bra. i cannot stand to have one on no matter what kind it is. does anyone else have pain just from wearing a bra?
Currently taking Suboxone or shall I say SuboxWOW!!Never give up the fight to get it!!
I'm not a dr but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!! Everything in my posts are strickly my opinion!

The bra just gets uncomfortable for me after awhile. Doesn't really hurt. I can always feel it though. Dunno if that means anything or not.

Always. I am one who has thought about reduction surgery so I always figured that's why I'm so uncomfortable. I have gone back and forth about if I should have the surgery or not. Then I think back to a time about 14 years ago where I had a baby, a miscarraige and 5 surgeries in a 2&1/2 year period and I think I'm not having any elective surgery even if it would be beneficial

Before you have surgery you might consider find a really, really good bra fitter & buy a really good bra.

My daughter is big up top (also overweight) & was having a lot of back pain related to her breasts & recently got her self properly fitted & also spent $100 each on 3 new bras that fit. she says that it fixed her pain

I vote for Bra-less too! I have to rip mine off as soon as I get home...any chance I can get away without one, I do it. I know some are not as fortunate to have that option, I really feel for those people.

I agree Bra-less is the way to go. unfortunately I can't get away with it in public, but it definately is the first thing I remove when I get home

Did the bra fitting thing, didn't help. Can't go braless, causes more pain plus rash.I've lost over 55lbs since I left work, nothing came off the top. I hate the thought of surgery and I know that because of the fibro the recovery will be slower but the bulk of my pain is my neck and back. I've had the neck surgery with fusion and I've tried chiropractic and massage therepy for the bulging discs and that doesn't help. The fibro is bad enough but the neck and back pain is horrid and the combo is sometimes almost unbearable. I figure it won't hurt to talk to the surgeon and then decide. Thanks for the opinions,I really appreciate them.
