Vitamins/Supplements

Lucy392

I started taking Melatonin about a month ago and have noticed no difference. Dr. said to give it two months. Is that the same time period with all vitamins/supplements or is it different for each one? Can I believe the person at the GNC store?

I would agree that many supplements need a couple months. heck, even Cymbalta needs 6 weeks to come to full working power according to my neurologist. As for believing someone at GNC, not necessarily. they are paid to say what they are selling will work.

Do you know of a website where I could get this info? I hate to keep taking and paying from something that isn't working. My Dr. is usually of no help.

Lucy, when do you take it? It should be right before bed.

Yes. Dr. said 9:00. Take before other meds.

Lucy, how much melatonin are you taking? I know another person on this site, IKP, posted somewhere that she was taking 10mg each night for quite a while and then it stopped working. I'm taking 5mg, and am considering increasing to 10mg. I don't think my body absorbs supplements correctly, and sometimes takes a higher dosage to get results.

You might want to research (and check with your doctor) about increasing your dose, just to see if it helps.

Experiment! The brand you are using can make a HUGE difference. For me at least, some brands work and some don't. by all means, try a few different brands before you give up. you will know within the the first few nights whether of not a brand will work for you. I don't know why, but Natrol doesn't work for me. tha Walgreen's store brand and Schiff have worked well, and right now I'm using the Stress Relax brand Tranquil sleep melatonin (had a good coupon). It is 3 mg. good luck!
