MDJunction to me

cinderella"MDJunction to me is a life saver... when i first was diagnosed with Scheuermann's Disease i wrote a message to a page i found on google, hoping that they could help me.... you'd never know it but that weird feeling (you know that one where it feels like someone actually cares) came over me when i opened my email next day to find that someone on the other side of the world (at the American Medical Library)had read my message while i was sleeping, and there low and behold was the address to MDJunction.... well it is everything to me, i live it breathe it and love it!!!!! I have found many people who are struggling with similar issues banding together to help each other. It is the best place in the world, and i couldn't think of another place to go to meet so many lovely people....

I have not been on for about a week, hello all and i hope everyone is doing well. Well I had my first flu shot, i work for a major hospital but no longer have direct care, i even work in a offset office but was mandated to have the flu shot or face termination. I had the shot on monday and fell like someone has beaten me witha baseball bat, i am so mad that i have to go through this, i knew something like this would happen, now my arm is swollen and red at the injection site and now have to watch that. Anyone else have the flu shot and have any type of reaction, the next step now is the h1n1 vaccine and again if it is mandated and we don't get it we will be terminated, i have already decided that i would rather go on unemployment then to put my body through this hell again, its not like i am not in enough pain but they want to cause more, am i just blowing this out of poportion or what!! any thoughts comments, i take what ever you gotAngry

navymom,

I had my flu shot yesterday and I have not had any reaction. Knock on wood! I have many chronic health problems so my doctors insist I have the shot, I think I would do it anyway. My rheumy told me yesterday that they are highly recommending the swine flu vaccine as well as a booster. I will do what they recommend.

I am sorry that you are suffering though. My sister had a bad reaction and she doesn't even have FM. I think that it may just be that some people get reactions and some don't. Kind of like with bug bites or anything like that. I have terrible reactions to bug bites, but no reaction to the flu shot.

I hope you feel better and that nasty reaction goes away soon!

Hugs~

Christine

My pulmonologist wants me to have the flu shot the first week of Oct. He recommends th swine fly vaccine as well.My doc sid the swine fly vaccine will be given in a mist form in the nosterils. I asked him if it was dead, because people with autoimmune are not suppose to take anything but dead vaccines. I think he said they had done something to it so autoimmune people can take it.

He has an autoimmune illness so I asked him if he was taking it. He said yes.

So, I will do as he suggests.

Hugs

Sorry about your reaction navymom. I do not think anyone should be forced to take any med. And I call it forced when you will lose your job if you refuse.

I have never had a flu shot of any kind and am more planning not to get them this year either.

However, my hubby has gotten them every year for the past 10 years or so. Sometimes he has a reaction (full blown flu or sometimes even just mild symptoms for a couple of days) but other years , no reactions at all so it s hard to say why the shots react differently from year to year.

Navymom, it s good to see you here again . I m sorry your work is putting you thru such agony. I don t blame you for being so mad.

Marilyn

I got my flu shot a weekago Monday, and I had a bit of muscle soreness the next day, but no other reaction. The info I picked up on the vaccine says the injected vaccine is a killed virus and you cannot get the flu from the shot. The nasal vaccine is cut live virus, in other words, the virus is cut in half so that it cannot reproduce, but your body will recognize it in its full form. You can possibly get sick from this version. The employee health nurse says the h1n1 will be a shot as well.

Sorry you had a bad reaction. You're not allergic to eggs are you?

I've been getting the shots since the mid 80s and for about the first 5 years I always felt like I had a mild case of the flu the next day even though my health providers always poopooed me when I told them that. It's been ages since I had a reaction though. I got mine last week and felt fine but a friend of mine who had his the same day said he took a nap, woke up and thought he had the flu, but it was gone the next day.

If I get a flu bug between now and when the H1N1 is available then I'll skip the shot. If I don't get a bug then I'll get the shot. I don't have a spleen and the one time I skipped the flu shot I got pneumonia even though I've lost count of how many pneumovoxs I've been given.

I had the flu shot a few weeks ago, I had itching, swelling, redness and tenderness at the injection site beginning a few hours after the time of injection.

The next day I was miserable with pain, sleepliness and swelling. On the third day I prayed for death, just to end the pain and agony I was in.

The fourth day I arose out of bed as if nothing ever happened, feeling completely rested and fantastic!

Everyone has their own reactions to meds etc... If I had it to do over again, I would but not for my sake but for my family's sake. I can't risk their health...

My husband and I got the Flu shot, My husband got sicker , fever, chills achy and tired with a really sore arm. My arm was okay but I reallly relaxed it before hand because I was expecting it, I got the fever a bit achy and tired but not as bad as last year where I had to stay in bed for a half day with chills and aches feeling awful that went into the next day. The vaccine is a dead virus but it doesn't mean we won't get a little sick from it, it isn't the flu we get, it just really feels like it, so the doctors can say "You can't get the Flu from the Flu vaccine, its a dead virus" because, its true, but if you look at all the side affects they are Flu like symptoms so you just feel like you have the flu, but you can't pass it to anyone and you only have it for 8 to 24 hrs approx. instead of the full blown flu which can kill some people and last as long as 2 1/2 weeks for some, so I pick the Flu thats fake that lasts a day or little longer that not as bad that I can't past to anyone. I think doctors are using political words, but we aren't stupid so they should just be up front I think people would act on their best interest and on the best interst of those around if they are given the facts not lies. that just makes us supicious. We still have a choice. I know my husband can't aford to get the flu and the friends I have are older and have illnesses so I get it for them not myself. I'm not sure how I'd feel if I was forced though, hugs Myst
