MDJunction to me

grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

Too often we read how our families don't understand or don't care about what we're going through so I thought I'd send out to the cosmos for all to see at least one story exactly the opposite. Maybe it'll start a chain of eye-opening positivity.

When I was falling apart after having to quit my job due to fibro, my 16 yr old son was a rock of love and compassion. It has always only been me and him & we've worked pretty well as a team but we never expected this. He was already working part-time at Sonic when I had to quit working and when I was the question "what are we going to do" he simply said, without missing a beat, "I'll just ask for more hours". As he turned 17, his entire junior year and now his senior year, he's had to give up playing sports to keep working, he's had to give up most (but certainly not all, I make sure of that!) of his free time with friends and his girlfriend, he hands over his entire paycheck to pay bills and buy household needs while only asking for small things here and there for himself. He has selflessly paid constant attention to my needs, helping me physically whenever necessary...with chores, with the horses, with firewood, driving me to dr.'s when I can't, etc. He does it all with minimal complaint because he knows & understands it's not my fault...it's an illness. And sometimes he ends up having to remind me. He's even coped well with the memory and fog issues way better than I have. I am infinitely proud of my son and the man he is shaping up to be. He leaves for the Marines on June 8th, 2009 and he will be dearly missed but he leaves knowing that I could not have gotten through this thing without him!

I pray that there are many of you out there that have someone caring for you as much; and if you do not...hold on tight to Jesus because He cares for you even more & will see you through all you toughest times!

God Bless,
Mslodie

mslodie-sounds like he has a wonderful mother who raised him well! He will be perfect marriage & father material! You're a lucky lady! Tell him Good luck & God Bless in the marines, I have a 20 year old nephew who went in two years ago, and another one thinking about it. When he leaves remember we are all here for you!
Where are we going and why am I in this basket?!!!

Be kind to me, I have a teenager!

When I first started having problems with Fibro 11 years ago my youngest daughter was there for me. She even joked that I was worse than a baby and that she couldn't take her eye off of me because I would "get myself in trouble". I don't know what I would have done without her. It is amazing how wonderful our children can be.

Thanks for posting such an uplifting story. I hope your right and that it will have a snowball effect.

I think it helps people to hear the good things that happen in people's lives. When there is so much around us to bring us down.

It was a bright spot in this day for me and how lucky you are!
