Lessons For Life From Dolphins

~Raj

It is very tough to imagine that the dolphins that live purely in water with a lifestyle like a fish are closely related to humans. While admiring their charm and playfulness it is important to derive a couple of lessons out of their lives.

1. Be Cheerful:

Unlike whales who get affected directly because of the sonar and sound pollution, dolphins are great survivors. They are always cheerful, even if some species, especially the river species, are at the brink of extinction.

2. Smile! Always:

Has anyone seen a dolphin that frowns? No, not at all. All dolphins are born, live and die with that everlasting smile. Though it is a physiological facility to have such “U” shaped jaws, they do convey the secret of happiness. Smile and beget happiness. One cannot smile at a frowning whiner. So, to have people smiling around, one has to smile.

3. Breach, Often:

The blowholes of dolphins are placed right on top of their heads to enable them to surface only that square inch out of water to breathe deep. However, they jump and play and explore new heights. One has to have that enterprising quality to breach out of their comfort zone to enjoy life.

4. Stay Away From Sharks:

Keep away from those sharks which would suck up one’s energy and kill the person eventually. They are not worth the attention. The sharks in humans could be chronic complainers, grouches, whiners, etc; who are filled with an endless abundance of negative energy. Stay away from them always to maintain positive attitude.

5. Beat Up The Sharks:

Life would give the unforeseen circumstances where one has to live and swim with the sharks. So what! Take it in a positive stride and make sure to not copy the sharks’ behaviors or attitudes. Being yourself is the key, no matter what, come what may!

6. Surface, Just One More Time (Every Time!)

This is a rude and selfish world that would keep on in their knees if they allow them to. So, regardless of what happens beneath the water, ensure to surface again for fresh air to keep one alive and kicking (or paddling).

7. Help Others Surface Too:

When a dolphin is hurt, there are many recorded instances where the buddies come to the rescue and two in the pod would lift the handicapped one to surface repeatedly, even if it means they go breathless. Then they take turns to ensure that the injured is nursed with fresh air. It is important to pick up oneself and is even more important to pick others up while they are in trouble.

8. Help The Unknown:

When there had been shark attacks on humans, dolphins have come to the rescue, despite not been summoned to and not knowing how humans may snap back at them. They do not seem to care of these things as their only objective is to help without any strings attached. One must help others similarly regardless they are kith, kin or even enemies who would dig a landmine to the helper right after they are safe.

9. Connect With Others, As Often and As Possible:

The dolphins are known to communicate with each other by various types of clicks, something like primitive human language, which is even now used in African bush by the pigmies. They encourage the pod and keep in touch so that their social bonds are made stronger. Make sure to be in touch with the near and dear ones. It is found that at least 100 people whom we do not know are wishing good for us and it is their prayers and wishes that keeps our lives going.

10. Have Strategy:

Dolphins may be so playful and mindless, but when it comes to hunting fish, they are remarkable with their unique strategies. Similarly, however fun one has, it is important to be professional and thorough when the task demands so. Work is the truest fun that one can ever have.

However loud a dolphin clicks, it cannot click a computer mouse, or is it so!

Grab the lessons joyfully when the cousins leap in the air with happiness.
